Road Safety Alert Issued Following Warning of Stormy Conditions

The Road Safety Authority is advising all road users to take extra care following a Severe Weather Alert from Met Éireann.

Southwest to west winds with mean speeds of 65 to 85 kph will gust 110 to 150 kph overnight tonight and tomorrow in Ulster, Connacht and north Leinster.

Following the Weather Warning Drivers are being advised to:

*Watch out for falling/fallen debris on the road and vehicles veering across the road.
*Control of a vehicle may be affected by strong cross winds. High sided vehicles and motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable to strong winds.
*Allow extra distance between you and the vehicle in front (i.e. don’t tailgate), especially when driving behind heavy goods vehicles
*Allow extra space between you and vulnerable road users such as cyclists and motorcyclists.
*Drive with care and caution – expect the unexpected.

    Ends

Isn't this how we're supposed to be driving anyway?

I saw a cyclist get blown over yesterday (I stopped to check that she was ok.) Going through the Red Cow roadworks yesterday evening on a motorbike was no fun at all, the hill just past the Luas car park is extremely exposed to westerly winds.

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.
