I'm thinking of buying an apple mac [and running windows on it] because they perform better, right? are there any real hurdles I can run into doing this?

where is best place in Dublin to buy one?

    Thanks

You'll pay a lot more for a mac than you will for an equivalently specced pc. If you only plan on using windows then I wouldn't bother getting a mac.

Yeah I though that might be the case. Is the performance/reliability not worth it? Will Windwos crash just as much on a Mac as it will on a pc?

Software crashes are (generally) caused by software, not hardware. So if you have a particularly bothersome piece of software bringing your system down it won't matter what machine its running on.

Yes. The guts of the Mac hardware and a dell is almost the same. If you want a Mac to run windows on it, look at Parallels Desktop or VMware. But if I was buying a Mac I would be doing so with a view to switching over and only using the aforementioned for programs that are not available on the Mac

Honestly I wouldn't bother with a mac if you're just going to run Windows on it. Most people, myself included, buy a mac for OSX. You'd build/buy an equiv. spec'd Windows based system for a lot less.

Op why specifically do you want to run windows? Do you have a need for specific windows based software? If not and windows is just what you are used to, then give a mac a try (o2 or the 3g stores will giev you a demo) and try out OSX.

When i first switched to a mac i didnt look back.

I guess given the advice theres no reason for me to get a mac.

Well, if you cannot find a Core 2 Duo windoze box as small as the MacMini, then perhaps this is an excuse. Just be aware of the poor graphics performance and lack of expansion.

VMware is a lot better as it's dual boot (you do not need to do a system restart when changing OS). It does not affect your RAM as much as parallels. So it's a lot faster than parallels and offers so much more.

which mac were you interested in? like which applications would you be looking to bring over when converting?
