Ok, prob a stupid question but I set up my MC last year and had the whole issue with the grey image due to the s-video connection. I have sinced swapped to using component but in doing so the picture is fairly crap. There's terrible ghosting at times and it's generally fuzzy looking. Never use it anymore. Is there a simple solution to this?

Was thinking about getting "the box" - would this output in s-video and thus give a better signal?

    Thank again

Are you sure you mean component? Are you converting component (RGB) to s-video? Or did you mean composite? The picture shouldn't be crap. What way do you have your connections? Are you using MCE 2005 or Vista and what mpeg decoder are you using?

Don't know about "the box" giving s-video. If it does then thats a good source. I know "a friend" with a **** Max and it doesn't output s-video. But I reckon theres something else wrong with your setup. I use composite from NTL pace box and the picture is decent.

sorry - yep it's composite. NTL doesn't work with S-video so resorted to using this. Looking at it again last night the ghosting is awful - the picture is virtually unwatchable. Is there a way of altering the setup in MC without going through the wizzard? I get a very sharp clear picture from the pace box on my tv - there's 2 outputs and I've tried switching them to see if it made a difference but alas it doesn't so it would lead me to think that it's an issue with the MC settings!?

I had ghosting with an ATI X1300 card ,changed the card to an 8600GT and the quality was excellent.
