Hi, I'm moving to Dun Laoghaire soon and was wondering what the signal's like up there for the various providers.

I need to find out which supplier is best and what's involved in getting it set up - do I need to have a mobile phone account with them (I'm currently on Vodafone prepay)...........not sure what else I should be asking - this is well outside my comfort zone

if you can get another supplier i recommend you do because mobile broadband is unreliable and slow no matter who you go with. if it has to be mobile, i think o2 is the best. the coverage is fine for all of them

you don't have to have a contract with them but o2 gives a discount on the broadband if you do. atr least they used to. they probably still do

thanks - i like the freedom of being able to take it between Cork and Dublin and not be messing about with a provider for both - don't want 2 bills when i can have 1 - I don't use the web for videos, etc, how else would the speed effect me (genuine question - not being smart)

well the speed goes up and down and sometimes stops altogether for a while. the most you could expect to get is 1mb and almost always much less than that. its alright for general browsing though

yeah they generally grand. except when the connection bottoms out all together of course. take a look at the three mobile thread in the broadband form to see how bad the 3 one is. the o2 one is almost universally accepted to be better though
