I currently have a UK Free to View satellite setup and am interested in getting a SKY HD box and getting an appropriate card from the UK. Can anyone tell me where I can get a HD box in Northern or Southern Ireland?

    Thanks

if you want to use the sky+ feature or watch any of the hd channels you will need a sub.( except for BBC HD and LUXE .tv)
Ebay is the way to go to get a box.

get away with what exactly? Bear in mind sky subsidise their boxes because they get an ongoing income stream, a non subsidised box does not have that luxury and we have to buy from a sky appointed wholesaler in Ireland. Nobody is forced to buy at this price , you can get it cheaper direct from sky and I've never tried to hide the fact. Nobody is putting a gun to your head

Nicely said Tony, I too have this problem with people constantly giving out about the price of a HD box and then a higher subscription rate, as if its our fault.. If you want it you pay for it, if you cant afford it wait as in time it will drop in price just like the Sky+ box has done...

If you cant wait buy off EBAY but don't come crying to us when the Hard-drives fails or gives problems and your stuck with no guarantee...

Without a Sky sub presumably the hard disk in the Sky HD box is an expensive ornament (that you can't see)?

Basically, yes. I believe that it is possible to subscribe to the recording features in the UK alone, though you'd still need your FTV card (which you'd have usually as a UK resident) at £10 per month.

I'm not fully sure if the same option is available here, though you'd still need a subscription card (registered with your own details). It'd probalby just make more sense to just pay the extra few quid for a single Mix subscription and get a few extra channels too.
