Open office..which option to save as for MS word

I am doing my thesis but on my own PC at home I don't have MS Word, I have Open Office. I have been saving the document as Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP(.doc) and it is by and large compatible with the computers in college and work (not that I would be working on my thesis during working hours :p).

The only thing that doesn't seem to migrate over sucessfully is the footnotes, the reference numbers come out the same size as the ordinary text (font 12) and not footnote size. Does anyone know would another save as option work better?

    Cheers

I believe that's the best you are going to get. You could always get Portable OpenOffice so you can use it, via a USB key, on any windows computer you have access to.
    That sounds handy.

That's never been a problem for me really and I have switched between Word and OpenOffice loads of times.

Just select the latest .doc Word format (XP I think is the latest in the list of formats it gives me) when saving something in OpenOffice and you should be fine.

Otherwise go down the Portable OpenOffice route cos paying a load of money for Word ain't worth it!

I've had compatibility issues between OOo Writer and MS Word before. It has to be said though, Writer < Word.
