Why would they close down? I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I don't mean everywhere closed but you know how nowhere in ireland is open on Good Friday & pubs close at 12 on Holy Thurs...just wondering if it would be the same in these places if anyone knows?! Don't want to go and end up having to stay in the hotel all the time!

You have nothing to worry about. Time to get out of Ireland and visit countries where religion doesn't have as much of an impact on pub opening hours.

In fact, going to the pub in Paris on Christmas day for a feed and a pint always makes me smile :)

book accommodation as soon as you can for Paris. I went with a friend a few years ago and didn't. Boy, did we regret it. For such a touristic and hotel filled city, it was a b'itch to find somewhere to put the head down.

Do you know any French for speaking in France?

Parents were in Budapest at the wkend. They said it was much like Ireland a few years ago in terms of shops open on a sunday etc.
There were a few small tobaconists/cafes open on sunday thats about it.
Shops close at 2pm (or somethin like that) on sat.
