Wouldn't adverts be more suited to this? People trade games there quite often.

adverts isnt great for it and itd be far better being able to do it here, but ive asked the mods in the past and its not allowed

perhaps people could just add their email addresses in here instead, and everyone could mail everyone else what games they have

yes that is true, adverts is terrible for that sort of thing,

    i have nhl2k8,fifa08,resistance,assasains creed,drakes,need4speed: pro street,virtua fighter 5,juiced 2 for trades...

    any interest!!!

How would these trades be traded? Meet in person, or post?

As it stands atm, I've only got Heavenly Sword, which I'd be happy to trade.

Adverts is actually a very handy service ,I've sold twice and bought twice.

If you can't sell it on adverts ,your not the only one who doesn't want it then:D

Good idea with "Swapping games" ,maybe get a pool going.

    agreed

its a great service for buying and selling, but for trading its not the best

as was said this thead is probably gonna be locked, but i dont see why thered be anything wrong with organising a non-boards centralised swap jobbie

as i say if we got everyones emails we could set up a google/yahoo group

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,469 ✭✭✭weeder

Well, while everyone decides what way this is gonna work, I've got Motorstorm I'd like to trade. Tried it twice. Didn't like it. Looking for F1 or Bournout Paradise. Have RR, which I'm keeping, incase anybody offers that.

    `I thought Gamestop were bad!!!!

Went to trade Rainbox 6 Vegas and GT5 Prologue in against MGS4 + 9.99 as advertised in Gamestop. They told me the two games togerther are worth €26!!!

Sent email to gamesnash and they are even worse - €9 and €11 respectively. They actually have Rainbox 6 on their website for €48.

Bloody rip-off merchants, the lot of them.

In the interests of fairness, went to Xtravision as well. They were offering €34 against the 2 games.

    Thanks for the comments ;)

I have looked into your quote and there are a couple of things to address here:

Rainbow 6 Vegas's orginal list price was €47.99 but this was reduced to €22.99 and is currently out of stock. Nobody will be paying €47.99 for this game. Also there is a difference between a new game and a pre owned game in cost / value.

This game pre owned would retail at €16.99. The €9.00 quoted was pre postage and an extra €1.35 would be applied to this making €10.35 credit to yourself, on the other side this would cost €1.35 to post out from ourselves to whomever we sold it too. With credit card handling fees and packaging etc we would make approx €4.00 profit on this game.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue retails new at €25.99 and pre owned at €19.99 again based on your quote this would leave us making in the region of €4.00 on your game. Considering our overheads in running our business and wages costs etc we feel that €4.00 profit is a reasonable figure.

As is the case with all trade ins / trade in offers there has to be some sort of economic viabillity for the retailer involved - it simply makes no business sense at all to give more credit than a game will retail for. Nobody will last very long doing that. Some games on the net in particular have a resale value far less than a high street store might get away with charging. Rainbow 6 is one such game as all the major online retailers have reduced the new retail price which in turn drives down the pre owned value. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is a lot cheaper than most new PS3 games as you would know so in this case both games you offered up to Gamestop would have fallen short of their offer standards.

The better resale value your game has the better relative trade in value you recieve. ie for example a pre owned MGS 4 would get you €30.00 trade in value with us retailing it at €39.99 ( 75% of the resale value to the customer ) and making around the same profit as on a €19.99 game. So in short we believe we offer very good value to our customers but on the end of the market where the resale price is lower we cant give out the same percentage in credit.

At the same time and in complete contradiction to what I have posted above if you had of looked at our special MGS4 trade in offer and emailed us these 2 games as your trade in games you would find that we would accept both those games and give you MGS4 free of charge - no €9.99 fee - no delivery fee. This is because we are subsidising this to encourage customers to use us for their trade ins.

That offer is still open to you and I would hope that you may reconsider labelling us rip off merchants :)

Ok, fair play for taking the time to answer. I suppose the problem is that there are few enough second hand games on your website to see how much you are charging, whereas Gamestop in particular have hundreds that we have been gouged for. Being offered €6 for Resistance while they have 20 s/h copies at €50 on sale is disgraceful. Maybe I shouldn't have tarred everyone with the same brush, but i was pretty livid to see R6V on your website when I looked at €47.99. Anyway, I'll probably take you up on your kind offer - I actually only spotted that after I had sent the email through in the first place.

That's a fair comment - our trade in service is only starting to take off now so it is not as transparent as you would find in a high street store. This will improve though as time goes on as we are getting more and more trade ins coming in.

For what its worth one of the main reasons Gamesnash was set up was because the husband of one of the owners was complaining about a game he had traded into a purple loving bricks and mortar store which was subsequently put on sale at €30 more than he got for it.

We aim to offer the best all round trade in deal as the store credit you get from ourselves is being spent at online prices not the €60-€70 per game generally charged in the shops. Some of these stores can give more trade in credit at times but in terms of cash being handed over at the end of the transaction we believe we offer the best value. We also retail the pre owned games a lot cheaper than those stores too.

So all in all we think we play as fair as we can with our customers - we don't take the proverbials nor do we try and make an excess profit. Of course we are a business and we are not doing it for free but we think that by being as open and honest as we can with our customers they will appreciate it more and in turn bring us more customers. Thats the plan anyway ;)

While your here Gamesnash rep, is there any chance that you will start getting limited/special editions of new game releases over the coming months and beyond? Ive been let down by high street stores on a few ocassions and was just wondering if you would be able to provide a service?

  • Company Representative Posts: 2,957 ✭✭✭Gamesnash.ie: Pat

We do our best to source limited editions but we are pardon the pun limited to what is available through the Irish distributors for certain publishers whom distributors have exclusive rights to. Ireland can unfortunatley be a bit down the food chain when limited stocks are allocated.

For example GTA4 - we only received 3 limited editions despite ordering a hell of a lot more. We have shied away from taking bookings for limited editions and indeed any general stock that we are not guaranteed to get as we know there is nothing worse than being let down on release day when you have pre ordered a game.

All we can say for future reference is we are actively looking to source limited editions etc and as we are growing in size by the day it is getting easier for us to get our hands on some of these elusive titles.

Ok, time for some humble pie.

Posted my 2 games GT5 and Rainbox 6 Vegas to Gamesnash on Thursday, they had them on Friday tested and posted straight away, and I got MGS4 in my hand 5 minutes ago via An Post. Excellent value and service. I wouldn't hesitate to use Gamenash again, but I'll check the special offers first!!:D
