Iberia Rant

Iberia have seriously gone down in my estimation, have a fliight booked next week to Barcelona via Madrid but cannot get time off work to go, chanced my arm with a refund but was told it was non refundable which is probably the norm with most economy fares with most airlines, anyway i then requested a name change and was told that that too was not possible, this is pathetic, bad an all as Ryanair are but they at least allow the person to change the name on the flight, i cannot believe Iberia will not allow this, surely every airline has to allow a name change if the person who is due to travel cannot make it, im now looking at losing out on A flight here (, how many (if any) other airlines won't let you change the name on a flight for future reference.

I would imagine that it's all covered in their terms and conditions.

You probably would not have been able to proceed with the booking without first acknowledging that you have read and accepted their T&Cs.

for "proper" airlines, it is quite standard for their cheap fares to be non exchangeable, non refundable

Well i do know that Etihad Airways used to allow name changes up to a few years ago anyway and i doubt they've changed their policy since, and they are one of the better airlines in the business so this talk of 'proper airlines' doesn't really wash if you get my drift.

As i said it's one thing not getting a refund but siomething as simple as a name change should be absolutely compulsary for all airlines..this stinks, Eur 200 down the pan.

    i just checked their website:

Can you change the name on the tickets?
Changes to names on reservations of seats and/or tickets are NOT allowed. For this reason we ask you to pay special attention when writing the names and family name(s) of the passengers, which must coincide with the documentation they present at the airport on the day of the flight. If the details on the ticket don't coincide with the documentation presented, the right to board the flight may be denied.

don't get me wrong, i agree with you that you should be allowed but then again, with the advent and huge surge in budget airlines, this is what happens to the main airlines who try and add cheap tickets to compete, and they become rather drastic with their T & Cs

I'm well pi**ed off over this, it's one thing not getting a refund but when you cant change the name that's really bad form.:(

Decided that 200 quid on a flight was too much to waste so rescheduled it for this summer at a cost of 25 quid, although they haven't sent me a conformation email as of yet, also ive noticed that the Dublin > Barcelona route is direct in August, whereas i was travelling via Madrid, is this because business picks up during the summer on this route?

when I read this thread yesterday I thought you were being overly harsh on Iberia. They helped me and a friend of mine out of a very tight spot several years ago. Saved us. Really were delightful and this one girl in particular went out of her way to help us. They were my favourite airline of all time since that time.

maybe instead of bitching at Iberia's T and C, bitch at your boss for not getting the time off work or your own bad/lack of planning.

i'm glad you've got it sorted out in the end.

likely it's because of the increase of traffic for the summer season.

    adios amigo...
