So it looks like my company is sending me to the US to do some work for another company. I'll be a technical consultant.

What are the visa requirments? Do I even need one as i'll still be employed by my own company?

    You most certainly will.

It will depend on the type of work you will be doing and the length of time you will be working in the US.

I've had both B and L class visas before when working in the US.

do you have more insight tom?

The contract could be anywhere up to a year, i'll be going with a few other 4/5 other people from my company. I know my company will sort out the details but do i need to go for an interview in the embassy??

    Its IT/Telecoms work

Yes, AFAIR, any time I got one (I had quite a few long-term visas) I had to go to the embassy for an interview, along with my wife who also got put on my visa.

Though having said that, I was working for one of the large US multinationals, so the embassy staff knew the score and generally never "interviewed" us, but just asked a couple of questions. They knew we were being provided with board and lodgings over there and that we would most definitely be coming back.

No, under the terms of the visa, she wasn't allow to work. So she had bide her time by going shopping, drinks with the girlies, working on her suntan. It was hell for her.
Where in the US did you go?

A few different places - Oregon, Arizona and New Mexico.

Bump, Anyone know how long it takes to get a visa for the US, the embassy website says a few weeks, which could mean 2 or 15!

    I'd like to go asap!

I got my passport with the visa (L1) in it returned to me about 2 days later from the Dublin embassy. Like Tom said, my company has lots of people working in the US and I was just asked a few questions, rather than a full interview scenario as they knew the craic.... I think that got it pushed through quicker as well.

I would say about 1 week max after your embassy visit.

Tom as usual is a good source of info.

I'm going on a B1 business visa as i'm basically going to be a consultant but i am still going to be employed and paid by my own company. I wont be on any US payroll so the visa should take 2 days to process.

    USA here i come!
