Strange usernames that are already taken.

    Hi.
Anyone ever amazed when signing up to sites like ebay, youtube or gmail
at the kinds of usernames that are already taken.

Even trying something moderately random like, oh i dunno, "yousuckdonkeyballsbigtime" is guaranteed to give you "username unavailable". :D:confused:

I know some sites refuse actual swear words which would account for some unavailability but even with non-swear words (like the example above), the bizarrest words/phrases always seem to be taken.

Some weird folk out there on the interweb it would seem.

Funny that you say this given that you were the one looking for the username in the first place.

You're just not as original or creative as you thought :(

tried to get a flickr account, which is linked to yahoo usernames, so nearly everything is gone. after about 15 attempts i entered "areanyusernamesavailable" or something along those lines (there was no swearing anyway) and, of course, it offered me something along the lines of "areanyusernamesavailable_994552313324132"

    Weird AND unoriginal.
    Gee thanks.

The two charges together seem a bit contradictory though given the context, don't they

I mean i concede the first charge: ie initial RELATIVE unoriginality in trying for a username (just like the tales of the 2 posters above who despite admitting the same failing seem to have gone unscathed..).

Anyway failure to get a username would obviously necessitate trying for progressively more weird and wonderful usernames- hence gradually finding out about the more weird and wonderful usernames out there.
So a charge of inherent weirdness wouldn't apply.

So the only charge should be:
An initial bit of unoriginality in choosing something as unimportant as a username- how bad (A common enough problem anyway going by the other responses in this thread). :)

Whenever that happens me it's invariably because I'm trying to re-register with my own username several years after losing all trace of the password and e-mail account I registered with.

protip: if your gmail account is username@gmail.com you also own (and will get emails that are sent to) u.sername@gmail.com us.ername@gmail.com use.rname@gmail.com etc. etc. (dots can be placed anywhere and multiple dots can be used)

I never have a problem myself. it's ether this or Make Sure It's Charcoal Grilled, which are never taken.

Never knew that one. I did hear about the username+1@gmail.com

you can keep adding numbers, sometimes it is easier to just put the cursor back in the box and type another 1 so it is username+11@gmail.com
useful for getting tons of cdwow codes.

Poor bastard with username@gmail.com as his address must get loads of spam;)

I found it freaky when i tried to use my full name as a Hotmail address (name, second name, surname then year of birth) and then find it was unavailable! I tried sending an e-mail to that address (i.e my alias), but I didn't get a reply.
