Just thought I'd mention this as its been a while since I heard much about it.
Like many of you on here, I guess we all had our grievances with the old place and personally I thought that they should scrap it and build a proper concert venue! Anyhow, with the redevelopment under way and also the proposed Point Village what does everyone think of it??? This is the only link I could find that shows the finished article!! Seems they've put some thought into it!

they did scrap it - all that remained were the outside walls - it's coming along quite well, but still a very big job to get it open this year........I pass it every day and it's definitely taking shape, so hopefully inside it will be a proper purpose built venue.....

that premium club thing is so funny.....

I think it'll be great to have when it's done, but who realistically will be playing there, only very big names, means the chances of people that pull around the 5,000 mark won't really have anywhere to play will they ?

Yeah, just thought they might start afresh, maybe like the Odyssey or likewise, but thats interesting alright, didn't think about that! From the picture it looks like they have to extend up rather than out as they are keeping the existing walls! Its a big jump from 7 to 14,000, hope Mr.Crosbie got his calculations right!!

Its definately a plus though cos it badly needed it, was surprised myself when I passed there a few months back and seen 2 cranes standing in the middle of it!! Not sure either how successful they'll be with that premium club when it comes to the average joe!!

It's not too big a jump capacity wise. The old Point could hold 10,000 people, but then due to Health and Safety restrictions it had to be toned down to 8,500 and then later to 7,000 or so.

All the decent venues in UK and beyond are now scale-a-ble from 20k seater arenas right down to smaller intimate shows. MEN Manchester or NIA Birmingham are perfect examples.

I'd be very surprised if the new Point didn't follow that hugely successful footprint.

    1.5 k a year..why would you botheR?

Yup, how many bands would you need to go see in one year for it to be worth it? I'd think they'd need to have some pretty good acts on quite often for anyone to take them up on it!

I dont think its meant to be worth it as such. Its just something for people with more money than sense. Its for rich executives and the like to be able to say to a hot thing in a bar "hey fancy going to see David Bowie?" on the night and not worry about tickets etc.
