Opinion required on whether this is a good deal or not. I will be using for home use, the usual stuff, photos, web, music...

i believe these computers come with card readers and firewire port (which i need for my camcorder).

Also i want to use this for web access, currently i have wireless broadband at my pc. what do i need to do to be able to connect to my broadband anywhere in the house wirelessly. (a router i believe) Is there anything i need to include in the dell spec that will enable me to do this?

It's a fairly good deal but I think you may be spending more than you need to. The 3GBs of ram is overkill for what you need. You'd probably get a better deal with the vostros. I'll dig around and see what I can find.

Just to let you know a wireless router is what you are looking for, there is nothing you need for the laptop to pick it up.

    cheers for that mate.

was about to purchase 2nite but if u get a chance to fish around for a better deal i wud appreciate it.

whats the gig with the vostros? is it just a name, like inspiron and essentially the kit is the same?

Pretty much so, they only come in black though so if you're a racist then you might want to stick with the inspiron.

Good stuff. This one here is pretty good. It's €400 excluding delivery and vat. Upgrade the battery to at least a 6 cell, although you may want to go with a 9 cell. You can also choose xp with this if you would prefer it.

cool, but cannot get bluetooth with this machine?

also do these have card readers, firewire, web camera like the inspiron?

i have read about the vostros her on another thread and reviews dont seem to be great but maybe that was just that thread. whats ur opinion? if they are basically same as inpsirons just different name, then shouldnt be a problem i suppose....

I'm pretty sure they have a firewire 400 port. I don't think they have a webcam and I'm not sure about the card reader. If you need bluetooth then you can always get a usb dongle.

I think they are pretty good. Both my sister and my mum have one, I wouldn't have bought them if I thought they were crap.

thanks for help, went with the inspiron 1525 in the end.....tried a few vostro 1400s alrightbut decided i liked the spec on the 1525 better.

in relation to the wireless router:

ok, i have broadband thru' an aerial. A lead from the aerial goes down thru the attic and into my study. Its a Cat5 cable. This then is plugged into a splitter. From the splitter there is one wire goin to a plug and the other goes into the back of my pc.

Now, im goin to get a Dell laptop. I want to be able to send my broadband signal around the house wirelessly. So qt. is what do i need?

What would i need on the laptop in order that this can be achieved.

What other hardware do i need?, a router i believe?....but what type of one, i have seen adsl and other types but dont know if these are suitable

    Help appreciated
