flying around E.U with drivers licence

    Is it possible to travel from dublin to amsterdam with only a provisonal drivers licence on an air lingus flight.

    The simple answer is no.

    You'll need a passport :)

    even then, a drivers licence wouldn't be enough to get on the plane. you would need either a passport or an identity card

    True...I was thinking of that when I was typing it but I *think* that Schengen would force the Irish to get ID cards (probably something the people are against?) so while the drivers licence would be no good the OP wouldn't need a passport which I guess they don't own.

    Not to hijack - flying to and from UK is okay with drivers licence yes?

    You can travel to the UK no problem with just a drivers licence. A passport or EU approved Identity card is required for travel to all other EU destinations. Also to note that with regard to expiry of passports, one can generally travel within Europe up to the date that your passport expires i.e. There are no restrictions on the remaining validity of your passport, providing you leave the EU country you are travelling to before its expiry date.
