Took my new camera and lens out last night for a quick blast around waterford city to try my hand at a few long exposure night shots.
Camera is a Canon 40D and the lens is Canon 24-70mm 2.8 L.

Any C&C is much appreciated and also feel free to check out my flickr site for other pics, only just set it up a few days ago :)

I'm slow to give C&C as I'm only learning myself but the best advice I got about night shots 9aside froma tripod) is to try to take the shot just at dusk while there is still a bit of light in the sky rather than in darkness - not always possible and maybe not always needed but I found it helful when taking pictures of buildings and the likes. Street photgraphy may be different.

By the way i like the first one - I'd like to have seen a bit more of the red (rear) car lights on the left but that's me.

I think the first one is the best of the lot.

I Keep meaning to get out and yake a few myself. One spot I wana try is the oposite Quay across the river and see what it turns out like.

First one looks the best i think.

last one could look good with a bit of work on the crane

I like the car lights in the middle one

Too much going on in all of the pics. Focus on one particular object instead of trying to squeeze everything in.

think they'd look better with a darker sky, ala something like this http://www.flickr.com/photos/cabaal/2076876746/in/set-72157603337929968/

I'd have to agree with Ken there's alot going on and nothing really there to draw the eye, I'd pick the first one out of the lot though

First one I think is the best of the set. I'd agree with either trying to get the shot when there's a bit of colour left in the sky, or using levels to render it black and get rid of the orange glow. I think it's probably perspective, but the monument looks like it's slanting in the second - maybe have a go at it with PTLens?
