This is possibly the simplest / cheapest solution, plug it in to the VGA socket on the back of your laptop and using an extension RCA to scart cable plug the other end into the back of your TV.

I think that should do it. It's cheap enough to try anyway.

you'll have to check that your video card supports that connector though, a lot won't

if the tv has vga connection, just use a vga cable from laptop to tv, or if the laptop has s-video out, use a s-video cable

vga cable should give the best results

Although it doesn't carry audio so you'll need an audio cable.

From what I can see the Inspiron has no video out except the VGA socket.

Personally I'd take a chance and buy the adapter above. You will need an RCA cable and an audio cable as AlmightyCushion has said. Maplins or Peats should be able to supply them for about €20 (guess). If you just buy the adapter itself maybe a friend can loan you a set of video/audio cable to try before you buy.

The other alternative is a PCMCIA Card like this one. Not cheap but it would work for definite.

the pcmcia card will only let you watch tv on your laptop not the other way around (ie not watch whats on your laptop on a tv)

heres a post from someone who bought the vga-s-video converter
