ok, i have broadband thru' an aerial. A lead from the aerial goes down thru the attic and into my study. Its a Cat5 cable. This then is plugged into a splitter. From the splitter there is one wire goin to a plug and the other goes into the back of my pc.

Now, im goin to get a Dell laptop. I want to be able to send my broadband signal around the house wirelessly. So qt. is what do i need?

What would i need on the laptop in order that this can be achieved.

What other hardware do i need?, a router i believe?....

Also aside from this i want to have a firewire port on my laptop, is this common on laptops?

    Help appreciated

see if someone has an old eircom broadband router, then you need to switch off its DHCP server, change its ip address and find its WEP key, dont worry its easy and we can help you with that when you get the model number

then you unplug the cable from the back of the pc into one of the ports of the router and run a second cat5 from one of the other ports into the pc

    should cost you about €0

maybe you are loaded, but i would imagine that this is the simplest method, and would be very reliable

getting a router should be handy, loads of people have changed broadband providers and have spare routers
