Au pair visa requirements... worrying

I didint really know what forum to put this in so mods move accordingly if it's in the wrong spot. apologies in advance.

I have been speaking with a lovely phillippino lady about coming to work as an au pair. We have been talking since October or so and i sent her a contract and letter of invitation. (needed for her visa).

Her story was that she needed X amount of money in her bank acc before she could travel. Now, im not nearly silly enough to offer the transfer of money, long story short, she never asked, i never offered. Her uncle (was supposed to loan her the money )never came through and she has now taken a job as a nurse in some arab state.

Her intention is to come to me in 2 years after she has saved enough money.

All seemed over regards chat until i got a mail today reminding me of her intention to come and the following is what she said i would need to post to her for visa application.

    Your part:
    1) Photo copy of your passport
    2) Proof of your income annually
    3) Photo coy of your passbook or bankbook
    4) Original bank certificate
5 Invitation Letter - Which I had that already.

copy of my bank details? proof of income. Am i right in thinking there is a scam involved here. and if so, how do i go about flushing out the details.

    Cheers

No it's not a scam, they really ask for stupid things like that. Why don't you contact the embassy directly and refer to the case. I think you can send the docs directly to them(fax) if you don't trust the lady in question. That's what i would do IMO

MIN2511 knows more about this than me (being non-EU etc.) but IMO it sounds seriously dodgy.

OP: Why can't you just get a Spanish/German/Polish/etc. au pair?

I'm trying, I have registered with 2 sites and i post on Gumtree. When they hear it's 4 kids most dont want to know. Still no panic till April, only working weekends till then. So will keep trying. I've had 6 previous au pairs but never gone down the visa road before. Something will come up.

I will ask this lady to wait a little closer to the finish of her Arab contract and we will discuss it then

    Many thanks for replies

Good thinking, i still think you should contact the Irish Embassy/Consulate and ask them what they require and then send it directly to them.

But then something rings to mind, she would need to be on a work visa/permit and there is a minimum salary(30k) before she could be granted a work visa.

    check www.entemp.ie

I would agree with DD that you should try and get someone from the EU. It's hard, but believe me there is someone out there looking for a breadline.
All the best! And keep us posted!

If I remember correctly, au pairs are not "employees" in the sense that they are only paid pocket money rather than a wage, so I wonder how work permits/green cards apply to them?
