budget to 2 new lenses but which ones?

Hi
I have a 18-200 vr and a 50mm f1.8 which I'm holding
I've managed to get rid of everything else and now I'm looking for a wide angle zoom and something for the end of the scale of what I have
the two lenses I've been looking for are the tokina 12-24 and the sigma 10-20
I'm convinced (for no particular reason) the tokina may be better than the sigma but I'd like to hear from your experience to prove me wrong or to confirm my hunch

on the long lens it's more difficult (for me) to know what I want
the 70-200 2.8 vr is a well known winner and I don't need more to find out it's a cracker
on the other hand I've been looking at the 300 af-s f/4 and a TC-14e
I've used an 80-200 2.8 for quite some time and I do find that overlaps with the 18-200 for general purpose pictures with the exception of the ones I like shallow DOF or when my son is playing ball and I want to capture a sharp picture

I mostly do people and birds
what do you think?

Have one but moved up to the 2.8

Certainly Ken Rockwell feels the Tokina is the way to go. I've seen the Sigma and it's a good lens though. I'm no expert though, but I know of at least one hong kong ebay seller that is offering the Tokina cheaper than the Sigma.

yes, ken Rockwell has influenced me before with the 18-200 vr, I got it before everybody I know got one and I'm glad I follow his advise on that one
not sure thou on his words about the tokina, he uses the much more expensive Nikon 12-24, a sort of money I wouldn't like to spend on a lens I'm probably not going to use as my main lens
