Paddy's day

I work in a factory from tuesday to saturday. I get monday's off. We get paid for bank holidays, cause its the same thing for staff working from tuesday to saturday. Your entitled to an extra day off or an extra days pay.

Anyway, last year paddys day was on a saturday and paddy's day is always a bank/public holiday (not sure what it is).
The boss in work told us we had to work paddy's day last year because we get paid for the monday after anyway. The reason why monday after paddy's day last year was a public holiday was because paddy's day was on the saturday and the shift that was meant to be working on monday got it off.

We got paid for the monday anyway, but we were entitled to that anyway. Shouldn't we have got paid for paddy's day or an extra day off last year.
I really don't know cause im clueless.

What's the story regarding paddy's day this year? Its on monday but its also on the saurday before, because paddy's day is falling on easter week or something. Its like we're getting 2 paddy days this year.
So no doubt my boss will probably try the same thing again this year.

Is there a website i can find all this kind of info or would anyone here know? Info about work and days off and what not.

You are entitled to the public holiday off as paid leave or one of the following alternatives:

A paid day off within a month of the public holiday
An additional day of annual leave
    An additional day's pay
The nearest church holiday to the public holiday as a paid day off

Paddys day is on Mon 17th - there is not anything special about the previous saturday at all. The Church will celebrate St patricks day on the Sun 16th - but mormal holiday pay rules apply for Mon 17th. You are entitled to 1 fifth of your normal weekly pay for that day - even though you are not due to work on mondays.
