Hey folks, just a quick opinion as many of the users here would be business owners/managers.

Do you find leaflet drops effective from you as the customers point of view? i.e. do you pay any attention to a leaflet in the mail that offeres a B2B service applicable to your business. From speaking with different people, I have found that the best way to begin promoting my services is a targeted leaflet drop to selected companies, perhaps with a follow up phone call/letter. I need to get about 500+ leaflets done up so I want to be fairly sure that they will be even somewhat effective. Thanks in advance for any opinions!

    Hi,

mailshots can be very effective but the average return in approx. 3% so you would need to be doing a huge amount of them to get a good response. There's also more likely to be a response if you do some sort of a special offer rather than sending it for information only.

I personally do take notice of them but often just because I work in Marketing and look at them for ideas but a lot of companies throw them in the bin before they ever make it to a decision maker.

All things considered though, it is a good way of getting your company's name out there and if you keep a pdf version, when you follow up with a phone call you can always e-mail a copy if the first one hasn't made it to the intended recipient.

    Best of luck with it

I think you'd be far better targeting and personalising your mailpiece.

Yes it will take longer to prepare but your results will be far better. I would take issue with 3% figure quoted in previous post for a cold leaflet drop .... 1% would be pretty good average. (this depends on your product/service).

Basic rule for B2B marketing would be Call-Mail-Call. Your first call to qualify and obtain who your addressee/target should be, and your second call to follow up on the mail.

I spent years in Direct Marketing, and I presently am a business owner (not direct mail business) ... so I'm speaking from experience of both sides of the fence.

Flyers end up in the bin pronto, personally addressed post gets opened.......objective achieved.

Thanks for the replies guys, very informative. I've decided against a leaflet drop, and instead to target each individual company with a letter and brochure. I think its better to spend the same money on more impressive brochures then on less impressive, but loads of, leaflets. Thanks again.
