How much does cable cost in your area

In Thurles, Chorus/UPC Analogue monthly service charge is €26.98, (including vat)

However on their website the price for analogue is only €23.50

    http://www.upc.ie/television/basictv/

The channel line up advertised on the above link includes channels not available in Thurles (on the analogue service) such as Comedy1 and Living TV, so its not as if I have more channels.

Its only €3.48 a month, but over the year that adds up to €41.76 which is about a month and half.

Now I know companies can charge whatever they want, wherever they want but I'm curious:-
Do Chorus/UPC charge more or less than their advertised rates in other areas?

I only discovered this when after requesting a cancellation, due to abysmal customer service before Christmas, I was offered two months free, only to have a bill for €10.98 arrive afterwards. Customer service tried telling me today that I was credited two months at the old price, but the charge per month last September was €26.99 not €21.49.

Voting with my feet now, I have sent a written request for cancellation!! and will get SKY+ instead with two mixes for only €22 a month (saving €59.76 a year, which will cover the installation fee, and I get a few more channels)

If anyone from UPC is reading this, you've just lost a customer who has been with you for over 12 years.

Unless you can't I suggest you investigate getting Sky+ instead.

Saw a leaflet from UPC yesterday claiming that their box was free compared to sky+ costing €195, (funnily enough it didn't compare the monthly charge Sky+ is free if you have any subscription now, UPC costs €2.50 per month for 6 months and then €5 per month on top of the digital subscription!)

However Sky+ can be got without paying the €195 quoted by UPC

    see the discussion here.

You have the choice of being upgraded to chorus Digital MMDS depending on where you are living in Thurles...I used to install up there for them, depending on the installer he may live in the cable tap for you...providing the analog channel listings you currently have.

I'm not sure that they can charge you a different price than the one on their website.

The only opt out they give themselves is "*The number of channels per pack may vary depending on your geographical location."

Thought that too when they announced the "increase" to 23.50

but on the bottom of this

    http://www.upc.ie/pdf/PriceChanges.pdf

    I found this...

"All prices shown include VAT. Prices shown exclude surcharges, discounts and promotions and assume
payment by monthly Direct Debit. Packs and Prices vary by region.
    1. Price change refers only to existing Basic TV Pack variants priced currently at €21.49"

In other words the new price only affects you if you were paying less before, perhaps they are just gradually bringing everyone up to the same price.

Considering getting a refund for lack of service normally involves reminding them that charging for a service and then not providing it is practically the same as theft, I doubt that they will reduce the price to bring it in line with other areas.

My contract with them ended today :D:D:D:D:D
