Some one asked me this today and I thought I knew the answer but I thought I'd double check with some of you more knowledgeable folks.

We're setting up an automated ftp job from one unix server to another unix server which is all fine and dandy. Someone said should we use the binary or ASCAII option, and that the ASCAII option will be needed for text-based files - .html / .css / .txt and binary for other files - .jpg / .pdf / .xls etc.

My thoughts were that you only need the ASCAII option when moving from one OS to another - Windows to unix, and since we're moving Unix -> Unix then everything should be binary.

Am I right or do we need to differentiate between different file types?
