new fring out, seems to work in 3 IRL using Google Talk.
Might be using port 80/443 and not the jabber port 5222

actually, only google talk works, noone of the other messenger protocols work, all are blocked, also voip is blocked.

Hmmmm, that's odd cause as far as I know Fring is a thin client and includes nothing to support the different protocols itself, just the Fring one so regardless of what service you are using (i.e. skype, gtalk, msn, icq or yahoo) the communication between the fring client and fring server is the same. As I understood things from interviews I've seen with the Fring founders all the 'magic' happens at the server level.

I have also seen support say in the forum that Fring uses dynamic ports for connections and I find it hard to fathom why they would make such a drastic change in a new version particularly when they still have to support old clients but I guess it is possible.

Before the August 9th 'upgrade' I had the unlimited broadband package and Fring worked fine for me with all services. Afterwards I couldn't even log in. When I moved to X-Series Gold it started working again - eventually.

One way to confirm this would be to use fring over wifi and experiement with port blocking I suppose.

Enjoy it why it lasts I say...

On a similar note live messenger (not the one from 3) started working on my 6120 payg. Used to get a connection failed the whole time. I gave Symella a go too to test some other ports and that now works also.
Just some wild speculation here but do you think they could be opening ports on PAYG in anticipation of the new PAYG mobile broadband?? Things just got alot more interesting!

I reckon that's more likely but still odd that it's just GTalk that works in Frinng - 'tis a fathomless mystery...

I wouldnt risk installing the Fring on my E61i as it didnt work the last time, never connected. And when I tried to uninstall it, it wouldnt let me. Had to reinstall the OS - headache..
