Hi, I am currently doing a study of online poker players and as part of it i have put together a survey. I would appreciate it if you could take time to fill in the questionaire. It should take you no more than 5-10 minutes to complete and it is 100% confidential.

Click on this link for the survey:

If you have any questions, send me a pm or post it on here.

seems more like market research into setting up a training website, but I completed it anyway.

Question 18 - People can be and are members of more than one online training site. You left out LeggoPoker.

Question 21 - Same thing and all that has been covered in books, online forums and online training sites for years at this stage.

Question 22 - Reasonable depends on what sort of library of videos you already have. CRs have 600+ videos so should charge a sign up fee. DC don't and therefore don't have a sign up fee. LP have one if you pay monthly but not if you buy a whole year and they don't have a big library yet.

    23 - Depends.

26 - It's online so there's no geographic obstacles which create an independent Irish/UK or European market. CR/DC/LP/SP/PS can and do easily sell in these markets. Maybe with some focused marketing you might get somewhere but you're going into a hugely saturated market at this stage.
CR have a very diverse selection.
LP are almost specifically 6max cash.
    PS do mtts.
SP have classroom type videos and are fairly diverse but with a strong limit background.
DC have a strong focus on limit and no limit cash and do classroom type stuff as well.

I really don't see what you can offer that hasn't been covered already or what's stopping your competition from copying any new ideas/angles you might have. This would also take a huge amount of start-up capital, CR's new website cost about $10K to develop and that's before you get to hiring staff/pros, etc, etc.

Sorry if it seems like I'm raining on your parade here, best of luck with it and I hope it goes well for you.

Yup, market research indeed so I didn't bother completing it.

Big lol at thinking PLO means Pot Limit Holdem though (Q7).

I find answering everything incorrectly is more fun.

FFS this guy is one of our own trying to make a go of something. You think you all could cut him some slack, no!?

Address the OP now. Some of the wording of your questionaire could do with changing imo.

    Example 1
How many sit and goes (STT) do you play each week?

Well some weeks I might play over 100, while other weeks I might play none.

So maybe your wording in the question should be something like...

How many sit and goes (STT) on average (over the last 3 months) did you play each week?

    Second example
If you do receive rakeback, how much do you earn?

Again here I receive different amounts of rakeback from different sites. So maybe the question should be worded as follows.

If you do receive rakeback, how much is the average rakeback you earn?

Or alternatively... have two questions 1. Asking what is the highest rakeback they earn and 2. What's the lowest they earn.

    Third example.
You ask what stakes people play.

I play both Medium and High Stakes PLO. But I am only allowed to pick one. This should be multi choice.

I'm going to fill up this questionaire as accurately as I can within your parameters. But I suggest you edit the questionnaire.

So you wouldnt have a problem with all the regulars starting threads with all there links too rakeback deals etc etc?

If he came out and said "this is market research for my new business plaan about setting up a poker training site" i'd have a bit more repect.

    This thread should be locked.

P.S I have noothing against meathman, i just dont think this thread should be allowed. And it certainly shouldnt be just because the op "Is one of our own"

Yes I would have a problem with that, it would be full of clutter. This is a bit different, it's a personal business. The likes of Betdaq were recently allowed to broadcast the launch of poker on their site. Paddypower are allowed to look for bloggers. If the likes of these corporations are allowed to do it, I think one of the little men, one of our regulars trying to kick off something is more than fine by me. If it became a regular thing where every tom, dick and harry were announcing their ventures then that would be a different story. But it's not a regular thing and unlikely to ever be such. And btw I have no affiliation whatsoever with this site.
If he came out and said "this is market research for my new business plaan about setting up a poker training site" i'd have a bit more repect.

I agree with you here, he should have come right out and said what it was, on another day this might annoy me too, so I can see where you were coming from.

Anyway I guess this survey isn't going to make or break his business plan.

i didnt mean to deceive anyone and i didnt lie in my original post, i am doing a study on online poker players - ultimately this survey will form part of a feasilbililty study into setting up a new online training site. I appreciate everyone who took the time to fill it out, im going to leave it open for a few days to get as many respondants as possible.

    That is market research.

Market research, unless approved by the admins, is generally not allowed on Boards. I certainly don't see any need to differentiate here, as it's FREE MARKET RESEARCH which other companies pay thousands to carry out. Completely unacceptable imo, particularly from someone who doesn't even donate to the site in the first place.

If it were a study for thesis, different matter but the fact that this Boards is being used as a free resource by a potential company is what is unacceptable.

I didnt see the betdaq thread so cant comment. But Paddypower are offering money and expenses too the bloggers. Is meathman paying people too do his survey? No.

Market research threads/spam should be either allowed or not allowed. IT shouldnt be a situation where mods get too pick and choose.

Meathman should of just put and explaniation in his sig and linked it there. No one woul of minded and he would get just as many people filling it out.

The fact it was approved by a mod is even more a joke.

There was a thread very recently where he was discussing the idea of a training site so I knew what it was intended for before I even filled it out, it's fairly obvious he wasn't trying to deceive anyone. He asked a mod for permission first as well to make sure he wasn't breaking any rules. Maybe I'm just young and naive but I can't understand your hatred for market research.

If you have a problem with it PM Dev or one of the Admins. I approved it because it was a regular user who contributes to the forum and therefore that's the end of the matter, take it up with Admins if you have a major problem. This isn't like some random Market Research company using boards.

But everyone stop cluttering up the thread and keep it on topic from now on.
