Fish as part of the BG&RH foodcabulary?

I was going to say part of the BG&RH diet, but that sounded incredibly wrong.

But I digress... Harking back to this thread, the poll seems to think of fish as some metrosexual foodstuffs, which just isn't doing our friend the fish right. A mighty Fish&Chips is one of the finest takeouts you can get, and for an excellent breakfast, fried kippers!

So where do the rest of you lads stand on the fish topic?

Personally I can't stand it. Would struggle to eat an aul fish finger.

Smoked salmon (oooh posh I know!! :D ) is alright as it doesn't taste like fish.

Tuna is okay if cooked as part of a bake or dish that has loads of strong flavours that mask it. Good for the brain and that like.

Fish is great however generally not the stuff that you get here. Big chunks of sword fish or a full red snapper with it's head still own, excellent stuff. That or just a fresh cod in batter* with chips.

*actually does anyone know what a fresh cod NOT in batter tastes like:confused:

    Is that possible?

I thought cod naturally grew it's own coat of batter, you know, to keep it warm, or something.

You mean cod doesn't come pre-battered when it's removed from the sea ?

On a more serious not though, foods without batter could be construed as being "good for you" so away to the fitness forum with any talk of unbattered food :D !!!

Steak is fine, when covered in garlic butter or a nice pepper sauce, and with chips and some fried onions.

Fresh fish cooked properly should not taste fishy.

Well, I for one, love fish.

Ray and Cod for a start (NOT smoked Cod, can't stand the stuff).

Frech Cod n Chips, loads of vinegar, bit of salt, from Beshoffs or Burdocks. Best meal in town imo.

There is a fish in the Southern Hemisphere called Barramundi. Best fish I have ever eaten. It is big and chunky and like real meat.

Yep, fish is ok by me.

I don't eat fish, but I respect its heavily fried plaice(see what I did there?) in our food chain.

Fish ftw. There's nothing as tasty as battered cod and chips during a night out... I do miss McDonagh's in Galway :(
I'll be having fish this weekend, fish markets starts at 5AM on a Sunday morning here (straight from the boat to pan :D), one of our mates is leaving next week so the plan is to pop out of the pub and have some fresh fish for brekkie!

I don't trust anything that can breathe in water, so fish is firmly out for me.

The cod to takeaway in McDonaghs has gone to pot altogether. Aside from it costing the earth, I suspect that they're buying it in pre-battered.

Nowhere near as good as it used to be. The chips, however, are still superb.

Well Karl – looks like fish is in the foodcabulary (great term).

And a good thing too. There’s nothing like chowing down on a freshly-caught mackerel or two while they’re still flapping.

Especially if you are Gollum, or a grizzly bear ;)

I like my fish dead, battered, deep fried and heavily seasoned with salt & vinegar, surrounded by chips.

If we lived in any kind of sane society ... I would be able to have fish & chips for breakfast :(

    +1

Although anything deep fried, battered and surrounded by chicks, works for me - fish, sausages, mars bar, ice cream, beer.

Was that intentional or was that a typo?

Neither ... it was an expression of core and deeply held BGRH attributes

Hehehe, oh, definitely deliberate, being surrounded by scantily clad ladies - is there any other way to eat yer fish supper?
