I sure hope not someone elses photos.. otherwise you would be (probably) violating copyright laws..

Tommya, how did you download them to the PC? Did you use specific software (i.e. software that came with your camera)?

Check your recycle bin to see if they're there?

Also run a search on your PC (start -> find/search -> files and folders) and look for files named *.jpg

This will find every jpg on your computer.

If they don't show up in either the recycle bin or that search then they're most likely gone (unless your camera uses a different format than jpg)

I'd start by checking if the photos are still on the card. Pop the card back into the camera and have a look at the preview mode. If they're still on it, just try the transfer again.

I think they are lost for good
When i look through the thumbnail the image is there
at the bottom of the image there is a small icon
it is a red square with a rip through the middle
    what does it mean

Elements keeps a thumbnail database that loads even if the file is missing. I keep all my photos on external harddrives (with backups :)) and when I start Elements without the drive I see the icon and edit mode wont load since it needs the full file.

I suppose it is possible your catalog is messed up. You'll need to search the harddrive for the files. Perhaps you could use something like Picassa and tell it to search the whole machine. You'll get lots of junk but you'll be able to search through the results quickly.

Finally even if the files were deleted from the card you might still be able to restore them if nothing has been written on top of them. There should be software available to do it but since I've never used any I dont know what to recomment.

What a strange question (in the context of this thread)...

Anyway - you're probably referring to the "liquify" function in Adobe Photoshop CS2 and CS3.

The programme costs a few hundred euro though...
