I got glasses when I was 14. My prescription started at 0.5 and has very slowly got gradually worse over time. I’m now 27 and each eye is 3.5 (Short Sighted)
I believe your eyes have to have ‘settled’ and not got any worse for two years or so – is this always true? My last test went from 2.75 & 3.0 to 3.5 in both eyes, in about 2 years. I really want laser now!

We’ve all seen the adds for very cheap surgery. Under €2k for both eyes. But some people pay €5k! I also heard that some say €1k per eye and then try to upsell you to a better class of surgery which is more expensive. Some say “It’s your eyes and you should not take the risk” – others say that you should never be up-sold on medical. The basic is medically certified and should be fine.

How much do you spend? How do you decide?
    Advice appreciated. Thanks

This is just my own experience and opinion ect.

Yes, any legitemite laser eye clinic will tell you to wait untill your eyesight has stopped getting worse, otherwise you will get the surgery and a year or two later will need to wear glasses again anyways as your eyes will continue getting worse, in which case you just completely wasted E2000.

As for the other questions, your best bet is to consult an independant optician I would imagine.

I went to check out Optilase off St. Stephan's green. They won't work on your eyes unless your prescription has not changed in the last year (or at least they recommend not to do the laser surgery for your sake). You really are better off waiting until your eyes have settled as if they get worse again then it was all a waste of time.

If you really want to know more then go in and talk to one of the places and see what they say - maybe go into more than one if you want to confirm. They will usually give you a full examination/consulation etc for free.

    Hi OP,

I've moved this thread to the the eyecare frum, in the hope that you'll get more replies.

    Hope that's ok,
