Looking for a decent mp3/camera phone

My trusty Nokia 6300 just can't cut the mustard since I filled it up with songs, it takes an age to load them from the memory card. I suppose the 6300 wasn't designed as an mp3 phone, so I can't really complain.

So, I am on the lookout for a decent spec phone, from what I can see, I am pretty much looking for the Nokia N95 minus the GPS. I don't mind Sony Ericsson either. Primary features are mp3/FM radio, followed by decent camera with flash, if possible.

    So, any recommendations?

I just recently got the SEW960i, enjoying it immensely so far, the walkman feature is great, has 8g,wifi,3.2 camera and numerous other stuff which i havent got around to figuring out yet :) .It is kinda on the pricey end.

Yeah, I've actually been looking at that, how big is it? (bearing in mind the Nokia 6300 is tiny :)). Do you have many songs on it? The main problem with the 6300 is that I have over 500 songs on it and it takes an age to load up each song. It didn't happen when I had less than a hundred.

I had SE (or just Ericsson) for a while and I do like them. However, I find them clunky in comparison to Nokia. Having said that, I wouldn't say no to them.

Price isn't really an issue. Well, ok, it is, but I would pay up to €500 because I would get the use out of it.

If I was only interested in mp3 and camera phone I'd try and hold off for the SE W890. Successor to the W880. Check it out on:

Relased November so should be in our shops soon enough. Then again, we're in Ireland, so that'll probably be next Christmas :-(

Couldn't you just not use the GPS? I've found Files transfers on my N95(8GB) are pretty quick, it can take a couple of minutes for the playlist to refresh once you detach the phone though.

There's also the N82. Might not be possible to get that for under 500 yet though.(?)

I have been using a Sony Ericsson K750i as my main phone and mp3 player. I put a 1GB memory card in it and it has no delay in playing songs. It also gets excellent battery life so I reckon Sony Ericsson have it nailed.

Maybe try picking up something within the same SE range? So long as it comes with headphones and an external memory card slot I'd imagine it would meet your needs.

the K770 looks good and cheap enough.

    silver n82 is 489 on expansys.ie and it's 513 at pixmania.ie

I'm waiting for the black one, could be april or may before it's released tho'.

in the meantime, I think I'm gonna get a k800i to keep me going.

edit - the n73 music edition is cheap on billpay with meteor

Currently i have just over 500 and it loads songs immediately (just over half of the 8g i think, uses a symbian os which imo is very easy to navigate once you play around with it and get used to SE if never had one before.

Only con i have found so far is for transferring video to the phone you need to buy media manger pro( only get media manager software with the phone),something which i found very weird since the software is free over in japan.Altho its only around 20 quid , its kinda annoying.

Regarding file transfer ,i found transferring songs and such very fast and easy, really like the pc suite.Phone has bluetooth if i haven't mentioned already. Also has touchscreen which is awesome, generally the touchscreen response is extremely good with the odd time having to press the icon more then once.

Regarding size , well its smaller then what i expected,Its aboout half as thick as those strepsils boxes(i know, great comparison eh)If your serious about buying one and need anymore details let me know. :)

I got a N82 and its a bit of electronic magic. There is almost no lag, lots of memory, menus and everything load pretty instantly, coupled with up to 32gig sdhc cards in the next year its pretty unbeatable.

also has a 3.5" headphone jack for your expensive headphones
