I was on my way into work this morning and was coming out at busarus when I saw an undercover Audi tearing down the road with its siren blarring and lights flashing. Dont know what model Audi it was but it was fairly new. Are the Guards driving Audis now?

Theyve been driving Audis for a while now, seen a few of them last year undercover as well. Not sure which model they using either, but it did look like an A5

    Presumably you mean 'unmarked'.

    'Undercover' is a different ballgame.

They also have BMW 3 and 5 series cars.. Peugeout 407's, Toyota Corrolla hatchbacks, Subaru Forresters...
No longer do they all drive around in navy Mondeo's!

    Probably a Minister's car?

Didn't we buy a load of Audis for the EU presidency?

Were they disguised as boy racers? Was it a drug stop or a traffic stop?

yes, they even have a horsebox these days............but not an undercover one.

Yeah full tint, pulled up beside me and a mate who was driving a grossly laden Micra just before the cherrywood junction at the lights, Thought it was a mate who also drives a GTC 07 then they put the flashers on. The pulled into the hard shoulder and waited for us to pass so id say it was the boy racer guise. Didnt say anything though, my mate had no license on her, 20kmph over the limit with a carr full of drunks and a random stoner. Dunno what they were after.

An Astra GTC is just an Astra - I think you are confusing the OPC.

The guards have a 335d coupe too on 17s - think it's navy.

AFAIK those A8s were on a temporary lease for the 6 months and had civilian drivers.

Saw a unmarked beamer going down lesson street, was a 5 series, not m5, but I imagine quite a high powered version. Was escorting people to kildare street/dail I believe. Was silver and only distinguishing feature was the blue flashers in the indicator housing.

I would be very wary though of people putting in their own blue flashing leds and pretending to be cops - I wouldnt believe it unless I saw them in uniform.

Was driving down the naas road with a friend and we were in the overtaking lane in a line of traffic, probably doing over 70, anyway this eejit is behind us beeping his horn, so we pull into the middle lane and the guy comes alongside still beeping, I could then see his headlights were flashing on and off alternately, he proceeded to waive some piece of paper at us through the passenger window, presumably his garda ID  and then he continued on... beeping at the next person to get out of the way. Bizarre

I've seen a 08 Golf GTi in parked in a petrol station in Naas twice recently and it when viewed head on, it was possible to see a set of extra lights hidden behind the upper part of the grill. I didn't see anybody getting into or out of the car but it must also be a unmarked garda car......?

If the 5 series has chrome grille slits and twin oval exhausts then it's a 6 cylinder model, so a minimum of 190 bhp there.

If the grille slits were black and a huge single squareish design exhaust pipe at the back, then it was the entry level 520d, which still has 177bhp as and from January 2008, and 163 before that.

If it had twin circular exhausts and the chrome grille slits then it's either the 535d or a V8 model (i.e. a 540i or a 550i, highly unlikely I'd say), and they have a minimum of 286 bhp:eek:.

The grille slits above are those of any post April 07 5 series bar the M5 and 520d, i.e. any 6 or 8 cylinder 5 series.

The exhaust pipes here are for a 6 cylinder model(bar the 535d).

The 5 series above is a 520d(could be a 520i too if we were in the continent, but we're not) because the grille slits are black rather than chrome.

    http://www.pimp-my-bmw.de/img/bmw_520d.jpg

The big single exhaust confirms that this is indeed a 520 d.

    http://www.pimp-my-bmw.de/img/bmw_550i.jpg

The circular exhaust pipes confirm that this is either a 535d or a V8 model(well the photo does carry a 550i badge, but if it was debadged, then this is how you'd know;)!).

Before anyone says, yes the fact that I know this kind of stuff says I'm really sad, but at least we now know what version of a 5 series you've chosen even there's no badge on the boot to tell us:D.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, we need Ford Crown Vic's, like in the States! :D
