    I'll question the poster above.

Olympus E-410 or E-510 twin lens ket, good wide to telephoto coverage there and available from as little as €500 here in a shop in Dublin (single lens kit E-410)

Best to go try them all in store and find which suits you as they all take good photo's if you know ho wto use them!

Where is the cheapest place you've seen for the Canon 400D?

    Pixmania has it for E599
or E659 with a EF-S 18-55mm lens can you find it cheaper?

D40, no question about it :p
Ergonomics are better I subjectively think.

Spend the price difference on a nice tripod or hotshoe flash.

The Canon 450D looks like a pretty big upgrade over the 400D too (if you have the budget).

Of course like another poster said above - don't limit yourself to the big two - Sony, Pentax and Olympus all have strong budget offerings.

€497 (includes postage) from kea-photo on ebay for the 400D with the kit lens

D40 (refurbished it would appear) can be had for 331 euro from England:

Shipping from HK could mean 28% tax on that 497 euro price - legally you're liable for around 636 euro. No tax for shipping from the UK.

OP said he wants the camera for nature shots, but didn't specify what type of nature he wants to shoot. If its plants and macros he probably wont see much difference between any of the brands, but if he wants to photograph birds and wildlife then he probably will be looking at spending more on lenses than a body and if he is really on a budget might be better off with a super zoom bridge model.

He can get the 400D with kit lens for €497 and the sigma 70-300 f4-5.6 APO for another €90 from kea-photo, that combination is great for starting off on nature photography and would blow a super zoom bridge out of the water.

Yes shipping from HK could result in tax but from what i've read loads of people on this board have ordered from kea-photo and always dodged the tax.

Due to previous threads/mod requests/the charter, we're not really allowed to talk about tax/evasion etc. However I can say that I buy all my gear from Kea and its all genuine, and are a treat to deal with. I'd reccomend them to anyone
