    Hi
    Booking 2nd skiing hol and are going to Austria. Which would you think is the best resort in Austria for;

    - Good skiing for improving beginners/low intermediates
    - Compact town, easy to get to ski area/gondola
    - Lively Apres-ski

    thanks

    My fav is Saalbach/Hinterglemm. Base yourself as near as possible to either of the towns.

    I've not been to all resorts but the bigger ones that i've been in are:
    Schladming, Flachau, Zell am See, Söll, Ellmau, Gosau, Nassfeld, Aplendorf/St Johann, Zauchensee. Some of those are part of the same areas but the towns are different. I do try and avoid resorts which are 70%+ english speakers though :p (like Söll and Ellmau)

    Would second what imposter said
    My fav is Saalbach/Hinterglemm. Base yourself in or as near as possible to either of the towns.
    and it meets all your criteria. It can be more expensive than some of the other resorts but has great apre ski, good variety of pistes and access to gondolas/chair lifts.

    PS you lucky ********

    Yeah, Saalbach ticks all those boxes, maybe also Zell am See. Zell bigger town, though still compact but much more to do when/if not skiing.

    Went skiing in Kitzbuehel for a week after exams this year, loved every day of it. The Hahenkamm race had just been on and the markings and fences etc were still up. in fact, that course is the route back down to the resort and makes for a cracking way to finish the day.

    Apres-ski was good as well, The Londoner pub has some fantastic live music on there usually straight after the lifts close.

    We also took a day-trip to nearby Salzburg as well which was well worth it.

    All in all, had a fantastic time and would certainly recommend it. Slightly on the smaller side as a resort but a stunning place to go skiing.
