Given that IRL has probably the lowest penetration of diesel cars in Europe, it is hardly worth the bother. They will be washed out of the system in due course.

Providing of course that all new diesel cars are fitted with particulate filters. Unfortunately the situation is far from clear. We could still end up with the new CO2 based lower tax rates applying to filthy diesel cars, and a rapid increase in the numbers of these vehicles spewing out their respiratory disease exacerbating PMs in cities and towns all over the country.

While PM filters are a subsidized €200-300 option in many countries on the continent, they cost the best part of a grand in Ireland. Why bother buying this option - it does nothing to enhance one's car for most people. And they are not compulsory. Anymore than alloy wheels or a 500 watt stereo system.

Close your eyes and drive on. And hope that you will never have to queue for a hospital bed.

totally see your point about Ireland being a tiny market for retro fit particulate filters but I cant find anywhere abroad even that does them for cars.
Even loads here that do it for trucks and industrial applications but not for cars.
