Hey ladies and gents! i am doing a survey for my dissertation on the future of music distribution and am looking for participants.

it takes about 5 minutes and there will be a draw for a €50 iTunes voucher for participants.

    the survey is available here:

    www.thehappydude.net

hope it's cool to post this!

Filled in for you just there.

And I always thought it was Digital Rights Management, not Data Rights Management?

    1. Have you ever purchased downloadable music?

This question is very ambiguous. I would imagine that all music is "downloadable" so if you've ever purchased music (and by music you presumably mean "songs".)
How many of the albums you have purchased in the last year were downloadable?

Again, I'm not sure what to answer. Let's just say all I bought this year (since Jan 01 2008) were 2 CDs. I'm certain those CDs were downloadable either on itunes, a rival website or from a non-commercial website/torrent/p2p.
    5. How do you feel about paying €9.99 for a downloadable album?

That pretty much depends, what if it had 50 tracks in the album as opposed to 8?

Ah here... don't be such a pedant.

This question is very ambiguous. I would imagine that all music is "downloadable" so if you've ever purchased music (and by music you presumably mean "songs".)
It's quite clear he means: have you ever purchased music that you've subsequently downloaded through the internet.

Are you simple? Or just having a laugh? How about I rephrase to reduce your struggle with the apparent ambiguity.
How many, of the albums you have purchased in the last [12 months], were downloadable [albums]?
That pretty much depends, what if it had 50 tracks in the album as opposed to 8?
This one is I find a little less offensive, but equally devoid of common sense. You'd weigh your opinion against paying the €15 to €20 for your average album in hmv.

Honestly, if you needed your hand held through that... I've no idea how you're ever going to fill in a census, tax or any other sort of form.

"When it says sex, does it mean when I most recently had some, or whether I want some?"

Does he mean have I ever paid to download music or does he mean have I ever downloaded an album and then realised I liked it and then gone in and bought in the shop?

Personally I'm shocked and appalled by the level of personal abuse I've received from moderators of this forum with regard to my previous post.

This isn't a criticism of Call_me_all because his survey was by in large quite good but it really annoys me when a student produces a survey as part of their thesis and it's riddled but ambiguous questions and limited answers.

I agree gender is a more appropriate word to use.

    Are you for real?

I'm starting to think you're not.

    5. Will you continue to download or copy unauthorised music in the future?

    6. If more or the same, why?

I think there should be an option in here for "it's a good way to preview bands that I'd consider buying" or something along those lines, it's the reason I download most music off p2p etc. and I know there are a lot of people who do it for the same reason...

I'm afraid I don't really know what "If yes, how does [DRM] affect your purchasing decisions?" means?

I assume to reply "negatively" means "DRM pisses me off and I wouldn't dream of purchasing DRMed music".
