    Hi all

We are going to Perth & Darwin for the auld h'moon later this year and was wondering would anyone have an inside track on good food/happening spots in Perth and Darwin?

Also if anyone would have advise on renting transport (camper van or the like) that would be mighty as well.

    thanks in advance.:D

How lovely, it's an amzing part of Australia, and I wholeheartedly insist it is a lot better then the other side:)

How long are you going for, and what exactly are you looking for? I can suggest to you things if you like a bit of hiking etc, I did it in 2005, went South from Perth around tho Albany, back up, and from Perth-Darwin in car, camping and hostelling... are you planning on driving Perth-Darwin? When abouts? (weather wise) It takes some time but incredibly amazing..hope I can help.

Ladypennyworth - We have a rough itin. Start in Perth on the 10th June. A few days here chilling then North to Monkey Mia. We intend to rent a car/campervan for this. Stopping along the way of course. Back to Perth for the 21st June.

Fly to Darwin on the 21st, do Kakadu National Park. we both enjoy the outdoors big time and like to enjoy the social life as well. We would not mind Hostels but would prefer hotels as much as possible for the occasson thats in it etc. We enjoy hiking as i've done canada and the inca trail as well over the years.

Xavi6 - As above we will be in Perth for a few days initially and back there for a few days around the 21st. As i said this is a rough itin at this stage but any tips pointers would be GIFT lads!

Great stuff, Perth is a beautiful city, if you like cycling I suggest doing a cycle around the city, towards the lake, and have a lovely romantic picnic in Kings Park, a huge greenspace with all the facilities and great view of the city.

Head to Freemantle, just outside Perth, get there on the bus or train, it's a town with a real cultural feel, musicians and cafes, and of course by the water. Same as Cottesloe Beach, just nice places to sit and relax and soak in the sunshine! It's about 29'c there now so keep the sunscreen handy!

Cervantes is the first place you'll hit leaving Perth, sandy deserty places with the strange pinnacle rocks stickinh up from the ground....Billy Connolly did his famous in the nude streak there so keep the eyes peeled for any replicators!
Dongara is a nice but quiet place, not much happening there in my opinion, Geraldton is the second largest place in WA, again hotels etc and pubs are a plenty...Kalbarri is a fantastic region , so I'd suggest spending some time there. It's a nice town. and you'll get accomodation in a hotel no problem. Great walks, places to surf (be careful) cycle etc, and some great hikes too in the National Park. I know everything is so well marked out in hotel and hostel receptions so there wont be a bother finding stuff to do. I think the contrast in scenery is what surprises people the most, from the green-ness of south perth, the yellow desert of the Pinnacles, to the red colour of Kalbarria...

Monkey Mia is very much tourist centred, with the dolphins etc, its about 30km form Denham, where you could stay also, less expensive than Monkey Mia, but since it's your honeymoon:)

ummm..well as regards getting a camper Im not sure as we drove in a battered car, but check out westernaustralia.com or a few others...as far as I can remember, there are tonnes of places offering campervans...

Xavi is the man to ask about Perth he should be able to help you out. I'm sure he will come back with ideas too you.

I was there for 6 weeks, nightlife around Nightsbridge is good, full of backpackers during the week, and then you get the locals out at the weekend. It can tend to be a bit young and messy at the weekends I found. Definitely take a trip to Kings Park, and Freo (the prison tour there is good) plus they have a good market out there you could do the markets and tour in one day.

I can’t really recommend food and hotels as I was in hostels and on a budget. So unless you want $5 dollar stake or backpacker specials in Dominos I'm no help.

Before Monkey Mia you also have the Kalbarri National Park so I would look into that, it’s probably something you would be interested in. Geraldton is supposed to be nice too, but probably just for a top off. If you check out www.bugbitten.com/alanmurphy there is two blogs there with photos one for Perth, and one for Perth to Darwin.
