Getting Camera cleaned

    Hi All,

Can someone please recommend where to get my Nikon SLR cleaned?
I am based in Dublin city centre.

Approximately how much is it to get it cleaned?

A black dot is appearing on all photo's, so I am assuming that the camera needs to be cleaned.

    Thanks,

    Jason.

anyplace you send your camera to get cleaned will just charge you silly money.

    http://www.copperhillimages.com/

this'll do the same (if not better) job for a fraction of the price.

If it's a defined dot appearing on all your photos and in the same place then you may need a pixel mapping rather than a sensor clean. If it moves about a bit then it's dust.

The spot appears in the same place on all photo's.

What will a pixel mapping require? Is this a big job?

I don't know about Nikon, it's a menu option on my Olympus DSLR but I think you have to get your camera sent off for it to be done by a service engineer. I hope I'm wrong.

I'll leave the solution to a Nikon user from here on, good luck.

I'd say it could well still be dust, Camera Repair Centre near Portobello Harbour will clean your camera for you, costs €45.55 if I remember correctly.

Otherwise apart from the Copperhill kit, there's also the Dust-Aid system which works quite well.

Thom hogan also wrote a guide about sensor cleaning for Nikons (which I'm sure will apply to other camera models as well).

I purchased a 40D recently and after a few days I had a big dot on all photos and was lined up to do a (Friend) wedding so had no way of getting rid of it, it was in the same place in every photo. I purchased dust aid and I cleaned the sensor myself
