    Hey
I'm off to Argentina on the 28th (if the bloody ATC will let me). Flying Dublin-Madrid on Thurs evening to catch a connecting flight to BA later that night. Thing is I absolutely have to be in BA on the Friday, as I'm catching a flight south for a package fishing holiday very early on the Saturday morning. If I don't get to Madrid til Friday then I get to BA Saturday morning and miss my connection. Miss that, and miss the group transport (a long drive up river on dirt track roads apparently) and probably miss the entire week's fishing, as I won't be able to get a taxi there, and the fishing lodge is so remote there is no telephone.
Now I've booked travel insurance (yesterday), before I found out about the proposed strike. Does anyone know if I will be covered in the event of missing the week fishing? Its already paid for (very expensive). Or if I book alternative flights (Belfast-Madrid, also v. expensive) to avoid the strike, will that be covered? I don't have the insurance documents yet so can't check that...
Also, if there is a strike, is the airline obliged to take me on a later flight, or is it a force majeure thing and will they just say tough??

Unfortunately the only people who can tell you are your insurance company - policies differ as to what they'll cover and under what eventualities

The threatened strike is due to end at 12 midnight on Thursday night. So you should be fine (I'm flying to London at 6:30am)

This happens more than you think in other countries, the French and Spanish do this all the time!

Yeah, crap that's based on the fact that controllers are expected to come in on days off and work longer hours because of lack of staff because of lack of planning by the IAA.

The French go on strike nearly every couple of years. IF, the strike goes ahead here, it will be the first in a long time if not ever.

I assume you are going to catch a BA flight in London or Manchester? Dont book another flight just yet if they go on strike you can always do the rail and sail with stena line from eiher Dun Laoighre or Rosslare which should get you to London or where ever your BA flight is going from http://www.stenaline.ie/stena_line/stena_line_ireland/d_laoghaire-holyhead/gb/by_rail.html

Yep, Dublin-Madrid-Buenos Aires. Don't know whether to go ahead and book alternative flights, try to change my flight to Wednesday, or wait til Monday and see if the strike is going ahead!

Of course not. Ryanair don't deal with unions, so are quite unaffected by them.

Of course not, Ryanair don't bother with ATC instructions or wait for clearance or any of that pomp.

Up up up and away the Ryanair way

    Hi,

Im travelling to madrid on sunday and due to fly back on thursday the 28th(day of propsed strike).does anybody know what would happen if the strikes goes ahead while im in madrid?
    Thanks

There are 2 different strikes possibly pending.

One is by air traffic controllers scheduled for 12am next thursday to 23.59 thursday. Basically all day thursday. This will affect flights to and from all airports in Ireland, IF it goes ahead.

The other strike is Aer Lingus. Nothing for you to worry about if you are flying Ryanair.

However, you are flying on 28th? Therefore, you would be affected if the ATC strike happens (which it might well not).

To avoid having 101 threads about this strike, let's keep all posts to this thread :)

Is there any danger that the strike will continue afterwards? Particularly the 6th of March.

Right, I thought the first reply was sincere but I'm not sure now. From what I've read it's an Aer Lingus strike and said nothing about other airlines.

Could somebody please confirm whether it will affect Ryanair flights and passengers? Pretty important:o

If you're referring to the Air Traffic Controllers stike then yes it will cause the stoppage of all flights in/out of Dublin, Cork and Shannon.

If you're referring to Aer Lingus strike then Ryanair flights will continue to take off.

It also depends who your flying with and whether the plane is at Dublin airport, as the airline might not have the plane available, so just because the ATC go back to work 24.00 Thurs, your plane might not be there, I have a flight to Prague Friday morning, Czech Airlines land the night before around 10.30, so unless the plane either arrives early Fri morning or its been sat there since Wed night.

The "political" discussion has been split off to http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055242210

Let's keep this thread strictly to those with questions about how the strike will effect travel plans, not the rights and wrongs
