Main Switchboard buzz sound

Recently this buzz sound in the main switchboard started and I believe it is in the one where the washing machine is connected to. Not sure if anything else is connected to it but the other night the sound was so loud that it switched off. I switched it back on and is fine but still buzz noise. It's a 20A, can it be replaced with a 25A or 30A?

    Thanks
    Pete

In short no, if it is wired in a radial circuit a 25 Amp MCB would not be recommended, it is too much for the cable to handle

It could be as simple as replacing the MCB or checking the terminations at the boards (both electricians jobs)
A dodgy connection or MCB can cause this.
Have you too much on the one circuit? is something else looped off the MCB at the board ?

Some investigation from a sparks would address this , but you'd have to be there and fuse boards/ consumer units are too dangerous for a DIY walk through sorry.:( + one look at the board would cut out a lot of typing

However, it should be easy to address.

Is it a Garo RCD (trip switch) you have by any chance?

Is this only happening at night time by any chance?

IS it an old round type fuse ,or modern trip switch/fuse fusebox consumer unit.

If its only happening at night time and you may have storage heating its your storage heating contactor making the buzz noise.

That said, even if its not that. It can be many things like a loose connection, internals of the MCB degrading etc.
Get a sparks out to check it, as its not something you should attempt to resolve by yourself. :)

Exactly,it sounds like a storage heater contactor on its way out (if you have got storage heating),if it is the contactor that is buzzing it does need to be replaced but as a short term solution you could try tapping this with a screw driver end or else turn the breaker off feeding this and turning it back on again, normally the buzzing stops but this is only a short term fix and a replacement is needed for those silent nights :D
