FAS/FETAC Apprenticeships

    Hey
I don't quite understand the apprenticeship system. FETAC certificates (which must grade qualification) are numbered 3 through 6; am I to presume a FETAC-6 is the equivalent of a basically qualified Journeyman?

How long do these apprenticeships take? It looks like they are broken up into phases, periods where you work, and periods where you study. How long are these individually?

I ask because the FAS website doesn't give up much info, and the FETAC site was somehow less informative! I am very interested in an electrical apprenticeship as I have formal electrical training for construction work and a year of experience in electronics repair. Pay is piss at the beginning but hopefully if the first few phases aren't too long, then I'll move into decent wages.

    Click here: http://www.fas.ie/en/Training/Apprenticeships/Apprenticeship+Listings/The+Craft+of+Electrical.htm

    and look at here: http://www.fas.ie/en/Training/Apprenticeships/Curriculum.htm

Phase1 you get paid f**k all, cos you most likely know f**k all. Phase2 the pay goes up, etc. By the time you're on Phase3, the money is meant to be fairly good.

    =-=

Oh, and you didn't look very hard? I just went to fas.ie clicked "Go" at the top, and then clicked "Apprenticeships" on the left hand side...

have a look at this section of the FETAC website - it shows where various qualifications are place on the national framework of qualifications (nfq) which goes from levels 1-10
