Serious bass problem

Decided to change the strings on my Fame Baphomet for the first time since I bought it. Had some unwanted buzz before, was hoping changing the gauge would get rid of it... if not I'd leave for a proffesional set up somewhere as soon as I got my new bass.

Took off all the strings, stuck on the E. It's completely stuck to the fretboard. I mean there's buzz, and then there's this. Won't make a sound. Same with the G. Stuck the old D string back on and it's the same thing. The truss rod won't turn. Is this thing f*cked?

Take the strings off and try the truss rod again, when there is no tension on the neck. If it still won't turn, start making some calls to wherever you got it from.

And in future, only remove and replace one string at a time to maintain neck tension.

Got the truss rod to loosen a little bit. It's not exactly easy to do though

If you only have 1 string on, that won't have anywhere near enough tension to bend the neck back the way it will when there's 4 strings on it. Never base your adjustments on the neck curvature with less than the proper amount of strings on the instrument.

Ok seems to be behaving more normally after I loosened the truss rod. And I've strung other basses a milion times, forgive me for thinking that the strings being stuck to the fretboard with 3 strings on the instrument isn't normal.

I got it from musicstore. They claim to have a 3 year guarantee although the small print is all in German, and my German is sh*t. Wonder what they'd have done if it was f*cked. Wouldn't mind swapping it for a jazz bass.

Oddly enough i think i know your problem, back with my older basses if i didnt have all 4 strings tuned and on together the strings were stuck to the neck. Try taking all the strings off and back on. if that doesnt work then i say get your ass to a luthier if you can find one.

If it was fine before you took the strings off, then it should be fine once all 4 new strings are on, and tuned up. You have them all on, and tuned up, right?

It's fine after I finally managed to get the truss rod to move. Although I over did it and the action is too high... but it's set that way at the bridge as it was far too low before. I'll set it up when I get some time.

I've had 3 others basses and restringing them was always very straightforward. Strings off, strings on. Play.

I've run into this once before. It was on a fairly new bass also, less than a year old. I think it takes a while for the necks to settle on some basses and guitars. I just strung it back up and tuned it as normal, left it overnight. The next day it was *almost* back to normal, just a quick tweak of the truss rod (1/8th turn) to give more relief and it was good to go. :)
