Plans for the next World Cup

According to Cricinfo the ICC have proposed a "smaller, shorter" World Cup in 2010-11.

Naturally the format has been juggled, and of course the losers will be the Associate countries, with their representation being reduced by 2. It's stated too that one of the objectives is ensuring one defeat doesn't cause a huge knock-on effect in the tournament.

Basically they're saying they can't afford to have Pakistan & India knocked out and Ireland & Bangladesh there in their place. Money makes the world go round, after all...

This makes the next ICC Trophy all the more critical for Ireland - if we're to qualify we now have to make the top 4, rather than the top 6. This should not be beyond us, as we're at the top of the Associate heap at the moment, but it does reduce the wiggle room somewhat.
