Was in there on the weekend. They had a basket of DVD disks, all brand new but no covers, just the disks in a blank case.

All the dvd's were 2euro each. Not a major selection but i managed to find...

Back to the future I, II & III

    American Pie III

    Jurassic Park

    Got all 5 for 10euro.

Dont really care about the case tbh. All the dvds are 100% legit, all the bonus features etc...

    Couldnt believe it :)

Right place right time i guess. Will pop back in and see if they have some more :)

I reckon these are knock-offs, as mentioned they don't even have box covers! They'd had them since at least before Christmas.

Whatever about downloading movies for your own use, that's bold; selling knock-offs for financial gain is just plain naughty!

Having said that, the titles I saw weren't really worth €2 in the first place :-p

    It is what it's.

These are 100% not knock offs.

As for value for money you are looking at the Jurassic Park, Back to the future and American pie trilogies for 12euro total. (6 dvds at 2euro each).

Ud be lucky to pay 15-20euro per set.

Whats 2euro? Sure you could download the films, not worth the risk for 2euro i think!

Would love to see what Tommy's Wonderland would say about that allegation!

same here. Lads please check yourself before you wreak yourself.....

Same! They probably got alot of ex factory surplus stock for cheap and are making 50cent per disk!

Independant stores do this ! They dont have a constant flow of items like a hmv ! They get what they think will hold a profit!

Yeah, for christs sake if they were going to sell knock off DVD's they'd at least sell current ones. It costs the same to pirate a new dvd as an old one, but people will buy the new one.

Very difficult decision - Tommy is one of the most decent guys you could ever meet. A real gentleman. Very good to his staff - suppose he found it difficult to tell them until the final minute.

Why do you think staff were with him for years - some for 25 Years? Because he always treated them well.

Landlords HAVE to get a grip on the ridiculous rents they are charging or we'll ahve another few hundred shops closed.

    This years casualties

    3G stores
    14 vero Moda stores
    Hughes & huges
    Jean Scene
    Purple
    Tommy Wonderland
    8 Byrnes Toy stores
and countless single & 2 shop concerns.

Reason - Rents that were set at the very height of the boom and not reduced with the downturn.

Green Property - Hold your heads in shame

Who is Tommy? Article says they are owned by Fergal Crinnion?

But how is meant to pay redundancy when he can't mee the rent & rates of €850,000 and also can't pay his suppliers.
I agree it is the property developers fault....

It seems the answer to all of this suicide reviews by landlords is NAMA. The valuations of commercial property for the purposes of transfer into NAMA is a function of the current rental "revenue". Hence a flood of seemingly illogical rent increases.

Tommy Crinion is his Dad I guess. Its about 20 years since I dealt with Tommy himself. One of the good guys in business.

As for staff only getting staturtory redundancy - there is no money in the kitty, so unfortunately that is all that they can get.

For those not in retail, it has been the worst 3 month period in retail I have ever seen andd I'm 24 years supply and dealing with the sector. For guys like Tommy Crinnion, retail is his life and to finally see what you have built up over 25 years disolve to zero is very very difficult.

Of course the suits in the property companies with their 100% & 200% rent hikes in 2004/5/6/7 have to hold their heads in shame, but they don't give a sh1te for anyone.

So if you know an ex retail worker, tell them to protest at the steps of the property companies about how their greed cost the jobs of decent retail staff.

    - my dealings with Tommy were in advertising about 15-20 years ago & have no connection or conatct with him since due to a change in my field.

Yes if it's the same person who I think it is he owned/owns Pride & Joy upstairs and downstairs in Donaghmede Shopping Centre along with the newsagents which is now a chemist. I remember during the 80's when things were bad and unemployment was worse than it is now Pride and Joy was there and obviously was making money, the actual shopping centre at the time was a compete dive of a place and got a massive redevelopment in the 90's, I suppose times were simpler and overheads lower in the 80's.

tommy crinnion started as a street trader, he opened his first shop in ballymun shopping centre and went on to open further shops. his wife started selling childrens clothing in his shops and then opened shops of her own. when tommy retired his sons took over the shops between them. tommy worked hard to build up his business and yes he was a perfect gentleman. some people face up to the hard task of facing their staff and giving them the bad news others use a rope! make up your own minds. p.s i have not seen tommy in ten years.
