Simon Conway Morris was the Christian Scientist. He is giving a talk in the Davenport tomorrow at 8.00. He fully accepts Darwinism but thinks that there may be evidence of patterns in evolution may point to a designer.

Very good speaker, even if you don't agree with him.

The event is being hosted by the Jesuits and Iona institute.

I thought it went on for ages but that was probably because I had no interest in it! ;)

I missed the slot, but I've heard both speaking before.

Simon Conway Morris did his early work on Burgess Shale fossils, but is now interested in convergent evolution, which he thinks points to an intelligent species like ours being an inevitable result of evolution. He also thinks that the evolutionary process was established by & possibly guided by (he doesn't seem too clear here) God. He set out the idea in his Boyle lecture in 2005 (transcript here) and - less overtly religiously - in an IOT prog on the Cambrian explosion (here).

I expect McConnell didn't share his views?

[Edit:] Thanks for below - will have a listen

it was a great thing to hear on the pat kenny show. having two darwinists argue over possible theories on evolution was great. one of em even said that famous line "who created the creator".

i really want to go to the davenport tomorrow for the talk but i live in another dimension....kerry:(
