SKY Multi-Room Telephone Socket Question

(Apologies for begining a new thread but the other all seem to refer to SKY+)

I have the existing Sky system which was installed prior to the need to have a telephone socket.

When I enquired about getting Multi Room I was informed that it would require a telephone socket. There is no socket in the vicinity of any of the television sets and I don't particularly relish the thought of having the house torn apart getting one installed.

Some work colleagues state that all I need is a telephone extension lead and to remove it once the system is installed. I'm very dubious about this. I'd rather have everything 'above board'.

I believe it is possible to get a 'cordless' socket. Do they work and do SKY accept them?

If I do have to get a proper socket, do Eircom install them?

Please excuse my ignorance - my knowledge and interest in the above is very limited!

    Thanks.

Maplins sell a Wireless phone line extender. Don't know if its any use but if it is it would save you alot of hassle.

The whole purpose of having both boxes connected to a phone line is to make sure they are both in your house. Its to stop people sharing the boxes and splitting the cost.

    Thanks for that bbability.

Does anyone know if SKY will accept this?

as long as its sending the phone signal sky wouldnt know the difference methinks. From what I've heard the plugging in the phone line for the initial set up is only ok for the normal sky or sky+ but for multiroom there fussy and need it connected all the time for the reason bbability said.

The wireless phone senders have been reduced again to €65 as of today in Maplins so I'd grab them now if u want one as there usually€140

That's teh One For All cordless unit, and they do work with Sky.

Please note that you'll need a phone connection to ALL boxes on Multiroom. Not just one.

At €65, that unit is a good price, as generally they sell for around €99 (Maplin's price of 140 is way over inflated).

Could you run a physical cable to where one of the boxes will be?

I suppose I could. My local SKY agent only referred to 'a' telephone socket.

Nah, a phone point is needed at each box. It's Sky's way of making sure that both boxes are in the same residence by using Caller ID. When each box does a callback, the Caller ID info would have to match on both boxes.

The sockets need to be the same line too, or it fails. Not two separate phone sockets on ISDN or Metro, that's what he means.. both go back to "a" socket in sense of one line.
