Did any of you read today's article in the irish Examiner re Colin Costello?

    http://www.examiner.ie/irishexaminer/pages/story.aspx-qqqg=sport-qqqm=sport-qqqa=sport-qqqid=55628-qqqx=1.asp

Any more info on whether its true or not? It surprises me that AAI recently announced him on their high performance squad if he is on the verge of been kicked off the Arkansas track team and presumably his scholarship.

Thats bad news. The same as any kid going to college and getting away from home except for him its bigger as he is so talented and also at a top college.

If his heart isn't in it there isn't much anyone can do. Hope the girlfriend is worth it.

Sad if true as he has such immense natural talent. Success as a junior is mostly about natural talent and physically developing faster than your peers. Success as an adult is more about attitude and application.

Might be just a phase that he'll get through.

Anyone know what happened to that high jumper Adrian O'Dwyer who seemed so promising a few years ago? He seemed to take a year off and never come back.

Don't know if he'll even compete again. My wife met him on the street in Kilkenny a couple of years back and he had even more leather n chains than when in Athens and said he wasn't doing anything. Probably our biggest natural talent since Sonia O' Sullivan and a geniune world class talent who could have medalled at a majors. I wonder has anyone ever sat him down and had a chat?

Anyone know why he isn't doing anything? Just not interested?

If ever there was a case of pride before a fall it was him in Athens, the jewellry, make-up, contact lenses....you really have to win something before you can do that malarky

Re Costello, his decision I suppose, but you can see him regretting this at 30 years of age.

Re Anyone know what happened to that high jumper Adrian O'Dwyer ...

From what I've heard, he's still working to get back to the level he was at. It will take a lot of hard work to get back there as it was world standard. Apparently at the time of the Olympics he had a small broken bone in his jumping foot that was difficult to diagnose but was eventually diagnosed by Gerard Hartmann. That explains his lengthy absense. There's probably a bit of attitude problems also - but if he's working to get back to the top, good for him.

He's still part of the AAI jumps squad (http://www.athleticsireland.ie/content/?p=2833) but not part of their high performance grants scheme.

Costello has always struck me as a bit unpredictable and easily-distracted. I hope he gets his act together. Even if it's not for the running anymore, it would be a real shame not to get his college degree over a lost scholarship. :(
