    The Chopper stories were great.

    Also the ABC warriors

oh and Anderson PSI Division was great too.

    anderson was sexy .oh yes...
i used to read strontium dog and slaine...
and of course judge dredd and sssssiiiiidnneyyy....
the crime is life... the sentence is death ha ha ha :)

ABC Warriors ... still love that story. Joe Pineapples ftw!

Strontium Dogs was always good, Ace Trucking Co was a fave, and I always liked Bad Company.

Judge Dredd was excellent at times, and at other times it was really poor.

My favourite had to be Slaine, followed closely by ABC Warriors ... Simon Bisley standing out in both series.

I have several hundred 2000 AD's in my attic ... time for a trip down membry lane.

I have the first 130 or so but sadly not the first 4 (number 1 with the space frisby is worth loads now) they are all yellowish and a bit brittle :(

    Dread ftw of course.

Bought my first in 1992...due to the violence my mother wouldn't let me buy it again :( Somehow managed to convince her otherwise in 1995. Been buying it every week since.

I have about 1100 out of 1547. I'll get around to finishing the collection at some point. Most of what I'm missing is in 1-400. 1-100 don't come as cheap as I'd like.

Had to go into Dublin to pick it up for a while there as it was only being stocked in Easons and comic shops. Its started to appear back in news agents all over the place now. Great to see.

Best stories? Jesus, where to start.

Nemesis and the whole ABC Warriors Black Hole off shoot around the 600s. Probably the reason I'm finishing up a fine art degree at the moment. Bah, it has a lot to answer for!

Strontium Dog - Great epic stuff. The final solution still gets me all choked up.

Judge Dredd - Too many to mention. Anything with the Dark Judges going mad in Mega City 1 is gold.

Bah, I could go on and on but I leave it at that. You get the picture. I like 2000ad.

Satanus is also in Nemesis and Dredd...interesting little crossover.

2000ad used to be called Starlord.,i remember buying the first few of them when they came out.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Starlord was a different comic which merged - I know that cos I have all issues before it was killed by IPC (it was a better produced comic which cost more to buy).

Yep. Starlord was merged with 2000AD in prog 86.

Which was great as Johnny Alpha and Strongtium dog was originally in that and not 2000AD. Same as Ro-Busters (Which starred the early versions of Hammerstein and Ro-Jaws from the A.B.C Warriors)

Yeah, most of what's been mentioned: Chopper, Slaine, ABC Warriors, Judge Death, Judge Anderson.

Got two "novels" of Sam Slade at one point. He was deadly.

That's right ... there was a bunch of novels ... I have one that's a cross over between Dredd and Armitage, there may be a few more lurking in the dim recess of the attic ... there are boxes that I haven't unpacked since we moved house (6 years ago). If I find them, I'll post back.

Sam Slade was cool ... with his robot cigar pal. Good fun. Well worth a re-read.

DD was a home counties bore tbh, I was a fan of the Mekon!

Anyone have a favourite artist/writer? I thought the work of Spanish pen-man Carlos (Judge Dredd) Ezquerra and Italian Massimo (Inferno/Harlem heroes) Belardinelli was top draw.

    Mike.

You can't beat Ezquarra and his felt tip pens. Pure brilliance. Unfortunately it's all digitally coloured now. Still, it's great he's still working for Tharg :D

I quite liked Colin Mc Neils work when I was younger. Chopper, Judge Dredd America, The end of The Final Solution...really high level to the finish.

Brian Bolland's Dredd is absolutely amazing.

    Cam Kennedy on Rogue Trooper.

Henry Flint on Nemesis...actually no, I prefer John Hickleton on Nemesis. It's just so dark and twisted.

Oh, Arthur Ranson. His stuff blows my mind. Anyone ever read Mazeworld? I preferred it to Button Man. It was around prog 1000 or so. Really great stuff.

    Who else...

Ah yes, Simon Frasier. Someone mentioned Nikolai Dante earlier. No better man for the job.

I was never the biggest Belardinelli fan for some reason. Can appreciate the brilliance of his art, just never really liked it. He died quite recently actually.

I have that issue in a frame , Dredd runs over Stephens green on his bike , the green just being a small bunch of plants about 1 foot square !!

Heh, didn't you get a picture published in 2000 AD once?

I have the Judge Dredd Collection #4 (I think), not sure if the strips therein originated in 2000 AD as they seem a bit short but I like 'em!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

How would you know that? (answer yes of a spaceship I won something like 3 pounds, it was worth a tenner at least).

Excellent, What issue? I wouldn't mind taking a look.

    I wrote once when I was 12 or so. Wasn't published :(

I honestly can't recall (need to go up in the attic to check) but I quit around issue 135, and it would have been well before that - 50/60 something maybe. I'll have a look this weekend and photo it if I find it.

Anyone remember the Judge Dredd story where he came over to Ireland?

That was a cracking good laugh ... there was a return trip as well ... where Judge Joyce came to the Big Meg chasing some gangsters. The artist was a fella called Steve Dillon .. who went on to do Preacher. Apparently he's Irish, and from the D5 area, which would explain why he drew a pub called The Green Dolphin in the background of one of the Dredd stories :)

That was Ian Gibson ... he also did Robo-Hunter. The Halo Jones story was brilliant, and it's available as a collection ... called ... wait for it ... The Complete Ballad of Halo Jones. Well worth a read.

Thanks Trout, will see if i can get a copy of that over the weekend forbidden planet or sub city maybe one of them will have it.
