I was looking in the adverts section in sportswear and came accross this Marc Helmets company. Seems they have a safety certificate. Is this done by the GAA? I also have spotted this cooper hurling crowd advertising here a bit lately
I was under the impression over the last few years that everyone was moving to Mycro helmets.
What are the best from a comfort, safety and price point of view?

    This is them: http://www.sliotars.ie/mainsite/Helmets.asp

Look fairly decent and if I was getting a new helmet, I'd definitely consider them. I've got one of the "new" Micros though and I'm fairly happy with that. Should last me for a good while yet.

You can get new Cooper helmets for €99 from here aswell: http://cgi.ebay.ie/Cooper-SK100-Hurling-Helmet-NEW-Lowest-Price-Ever_W0QQitemZ270211331229QQihZ017QQcategoryZ91560QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Nope, €25 for delivery. In reality, Coopers cost more than €99 and it costs less than €25 for delivery, so the seller is just messing about with the figures so he doesn't have to pay as much commission to ebay.

Urban dictionary is your friend! It means "Rolling on Floor Laughing".

Those Cooper helmets do not have the IS355:2006 mark and are not regarded as safe - the large air gap on top is one reason why that design won't reach the new standard.

Mycro or Marc helmets (that do have IS355) would be the safest helmets on the market to buy. It's your head, you only have one remember.

different helmets have different face guards and shape

you really need to try them on and find one that suits you. I know fellas that find Mycro very tight while the new cooper is a perfect fit.

other lads swear by Mycros with Kilkenny face guard

Old Coopers with kilkenny faceguard only way

I have had a cooper and a mycro and tbh I prefer the new cooper tehy fit on your head better and aren't shaking around. The other plis to coopers is that you can adjust the shape. So if you are going for a cooper try and get the old one,, You cannot buy them in shops but you can get them on ebey and they will say if it is old and mostlikely will be. But either way whatever helmet you get you should get a kilkenny guard

why is everybody changing to the "new coopers"???:confused: I dont understand, they are not made by cooper in canada, they look so cheap and awkward, even the faceguards that come with them, it even says cooper on the back?? mycro are much nicer, the foam is so big and awkward aswell as the helmet itself, just massive, afterall they are not the real thing, what is the big deal about them, the original cooper sk100 helmets are the thing with gerry cleere face guards, and for safety the mycro.

tbh the faceguards on the new helmets are all brutal

far too many bars. you want to stop the hurley coming near your face, not worried about letting the ball through...

The new coopers are made by cooper they are made from the same mold as the old ones so not sure what the diffirence is but they are and the old cooper did not come witha gerry cleery facguard you had to buy it sepeartely. If you look at I think it is either ben or jerry o'connor one of them anyway has a green cooper but it has a black faceguard and the same with some other hurlers.

sorry but you are wrong, sombody in galway bought the rights off cooper in canada to use their brand name and as far as i know this latest version is produced in china, they are much larger than the original cooper sk100 and have a cheap looking shine off them, jerry o connors green cooper is original and, one of the old mycro guards was put on it after it was brought over from canada rather than a gerry cleere faceguard,
