GPT or MBR?

Ok I installed a new 1TB drive and Vista popped up a little note when I went to format saying did I want to format it as "GUID or NTFS".

The only difference it gives is that GPT (GUID Partition Table) is needed for physical disks over 2TB (which mine isn't) but that GPT is not compatible with previous versions of Windows.

I'm just wondering has anyone had any experience with this filesystem and whether its faster than NTFS (which uses the MBR)?

I had the same issue when I installed a 1TB drive last week. I picked GPT since I have no intention of going back to XP. Performance is good but I'd imagine that's because the 1TB drive is much faster than my couple-of-years old existing drives rather than any benefit from the filesystem.
Wikipedia says GPT is backwards compatible so I don't see any downside.
