    hi all,
i was thinking of doing the honours degree course in mechatronics & was wondering if anyone currently doing it could give me some feed back on it.
i.e. how difficult it is, how many hours a week it takes & any other useful information regarding the course. thanks for any help offered.

I completed Mechatronics in 06... great course; however if your looking for short hours, engineering wont be your cup of tea - both first and second year have ~30 hours on average.

3rd year prob the best; whereby it was mainly project orientated for the first semester then work placement for the next 6months

Then 4th year - very tough, you will have final year project to do + loads of work to do for your exams.

2nd and 3rd year go towards your final grade when you graduate too so that a good system.

Main failure is that there perchaps isnt enough of a hands on approach to things whereby you wont be able use the workshop tools etc (except maybe for a punch, saw, hammer :D) but that role is for technicians which is exactly the same in my current workplace - we order them to do the stuff which suits me grand!!

But overall a great course and had no regrets. Job prospects good too i got one immediately; first interview led to a 2nd then i got the job!!! And im now designing electric fires!!! lol

Classes tend to be small now - hence the fall in points for the course!! there were approx 30-35 starting in first year but a high drop out rate is present too, some ppl find it too tough, others just picked the wrong course... about 25 finished it but that included repeat students and transfers too.

Reference material??? Do you mean mechatronics as a whole or the actual course outline and material?

just if there is some material i could look at for individual modules so i might get into the flow of it quicker

I am doing the course online-streamed lectures etc. so while I cannot tell you about your specific college experience i can tell you that it can be a bit of a job fitting in course work, lectures, projects and exams with a full time job and family and still finding time to sleep.
Its a great course and very interesting and I would have loved to have done it full time back in the day when I had no other commitments.
