You could try checking the Adobe forum/help site. I think someone posted that there are some bugs between Vista and CS3 out there.

Ok i was talking with another chap before about this well something along the lines anyway. You're main problem here could be vista. This new windows revolution seems to be baffling people lately when it comes to installing newer versions of coftware onto the operating system after previous older versions had being deleted. The main problem is that vista hold on to components of the previous software bundle that was installed and this is why CS3 doesn't load up properly for you because it hasn't fully completed installation in the registries. What my friend did, now bear in mind he had this problem with a fully legal copy of microsoft office was download a program called cc cleaner. This program will act as a garbage collector for any unused and unwanted files in your system.Your best bet is to uninstall the new one if you have it partially installed run CC Cleaner and try again.I hope that helps. P.S i will try and find the thread that he had his problem posted on. I am running the complete adobe works set at the moment all 10.2gb of it and it works fine, although i choose to keep my laptop back to xp. Vista has to many mermission problems and if one was to obtain an illegal copy of a program one could find it hard to get it fully installed. Anyway hope the earlier part of this post helps:)

I had same problem last week and googled it and got the fix straight away:

    Open a Command Prompt Window:
(its what i always called the dos prompt, its there under accessories on start menu menu)

    Type in: regsvr32 jscript.dll

    Press return.

    Close Window

    Install CS3

and lose the next 3 days of your life playing with it.

    Hope this works

    It registers the .dll file.
    Nothing sinister.
You can unregister it again, if you need to.

    Did it work??

    Did what work ?
with all due respect I am hardly going to run a script that I dont know what it does ??

I am trying to load a legal copy of a demo of CS3 direct from Adobe website..

    cheers for explaining it.
Any ideas what it is ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,547 ✭✭✭City-Exile

You're not running a script, you're registering a Dynamic Link Library file.

It's obviously the java script DLL file.
You may have a version conflict, so you should register it, so that PS can use it.

in XP the prompt was accessed through the start bar, I cant find it on Vista.
I must say as this point I only have vista a few weeks..

    *edit
    found it :)
    But it failed :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,547 ✭✭✭City-Exile

    Work with me here, sunny.
"But it failed" isn't giving me much to work with.
    Do you have Admin rights?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,484 ✭✭✭✭Stephen

In Vista you will need to run the command prompt with admin rights - just right click on it in the start menu and select "Run as Administrator" - then do the regsvr32 thing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,538 ✭✭✭sunny2004

    Cheers to both of you...
I got it finally to run and it worked In admin rights mode..

    BUT

I tried installing CS3 and it failed at the end telling me it loaded the components but not the program !!!

This thread is definitely going to be moved off the Photography forum now! :p

Are you running Zone Alarm, or something?
Also, where are you running the install from?
i.e. have you downloaded it & saved it locally?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,538 ✭✭✭sunny2004

running mcafee and its in a folder on the desktop !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,547 ✭✭✭City-Exile

And you're running it as Administrator?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,538 ✭✭✭sunny2004

you mean the adobe cs3.. trying that now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,547 ✭✭✭City-Exile

Yeah, right-click on the setup file & select Run as administrator.
    Then enter the appropriate credentials.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,484 ✭✭✭✭Stephen

Although when you run a setup program vista will normally know it needs admin rights and pop up a UAC prompt asking you if its OK to continue.

tried it, and it failed at the last hurdle.

    Telling me is wasnt successful.....
installed the components but not the program itself..

I am convinced this has something to do with the register entries..

I had cs2 installed before this and removed it.. but I think there is stuff left.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,547 ✭✭✭City-Exile

I've had situations where you can install stuff alright, when prompted for the Admin credentials, but then you need to run the app first time as Administrator too.

Vista loves to retain Registry entries.
If I were you, I'd trawl the Registry & clear out everything associated with CS2.
I don't know your level of experience though, so I'm not going to instruct you to do it.
The Registry is under the bonnet & shouldn't be messed around with.

I said this maybe 3rd post into the thread the only way my friend got rid of the registry files for ms office was to use the cc cleaner program.

Don't do what City-Exile said unless you are extremely familiar with how to change. edit and delete registry files. You could end up doing alot more damage than you indeed to do. Trust me i am an IT student. If you are anyway unsure get someone you know who knows their way around registry files to do it for you!Just warning you and i mean no offence to City-Exile or his/her suggestion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,538 ✭✭✭sunny2004

cheers again to both of you,
I dont have the confidence to mess with the registry myself
But I downloaded the cc cleaner program and ran it...

Tried installing CS3 again with no joy it finished at the same point, telling me the components are installed but reporting it didnt install CS3 program..

Tell ya what i'll do then, I'll have a word with one or two people in college for you tomorrow cos i would absolutely hate for someone not to be able to use CS3 its brilliant. I'll see what suggestions they come up with for you. May i ask did you get the complete package of adobe?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,538 ✭✭✭sunny2004

i downloaded the full package as a demo from adobe website, its the extended version !
cheers for asking tomorrow, im at my wits end here !

I said that I wasn't going to instruct sunny to edit the Registry.
Come back to me when you have 12 years global experience in IT!

Apologies if it seemed indignant to you.
